And she knows someone there, so she won't feel as lonely. I am so, so pleased you've been able to ease her situation. I know just how you felt.

Mrs H I am pleased you have found somewhere for MIL. She will, hopefully, settle in there and it will be easier for all of you.

We still have DA in hospital but she is now trying to organise everyone from her bed. It is a huge relief to have her back with us but a lot more difficult for the staff. I have found a couple of homes which I hope she will be able to choose from.

ATM the most difficult thing for me is doing her laundry and getting it back to her and we live 60 miles away!!!

Thanks for the good wishes :). Sorry I haven't been about much, but real-life has not been treating me well!

Little Miss Happy became ill on 4th December. It is labyrinthitis, which for most people is a very unpleasant form of vertigo but not particularly long-lasting. Unfortunately hers is the worst kind and she is currently using a wheelchair because any form of movement (even just moving her eyes) means that the world spins around her super-fast, she can't see anything or work out 'which way is up' and simply falls over. We have finally got her home from uni (she could not travel at first) but she has to have complete rest from everything and can't even watch TV as it sets off her symptoms. She is in the final year of her degree course and can't sit her January exams nor complete her course-work. The uni is, of course, closed for Christmas so we can't even speak to them about options. The doctors assure us that she WILL get better but no-one can say when. If she is very lucky it could be the end of January, but otherwise it could be a lot longer. Gutted isn't the word!

Meanwhile, Mr Happy's mum is still quite content in her nursing home so all good on that front.

Financially, my diary (and therefore my LBM) is two years old today. My unsecured debts are still huge, with just less than 20% paid off, but at least they are going down and not up. Whilst it is not my top priority just now, I am still very conscious of every penny spent and there should be a more dramatic reduction in 2014.

Hope anyone who reads this has had a lovely Christmas x

It's heartening to know Miss Happy will recover, but how frustrating for everyone concerned that there is no clear timetable to that recovery. (I hope she's discovered Radio 4 to keep her braincells from atrophying.) In my experience universities bend over backwards to accommodate students' health problems, so you may find that if the situation drags on longer than hoped that she can defer, which would give her the chance to heal without worrying.

20% is a huge, huge achievement, and I think you should give yourself an achievement reward over new year. You've done amazingly well considering the self-imposed rules about not co-opting your OH because you didn't want to worry him in the early days. You've also had a lot of grim bad luck to deal with family health problems, animals and property-wise - and you've still managed to pay off 20%, which as you say, is a heck of a distance from getting further into debt. Just imagine how much more debt you'd be in if you hadn't had your lightbulb moment two years ago. Impressive.

    I am cheering you on.

Happy New Year Mrs Happy! I hope things will be easier and Miss Happy makes a full recovery very soon.

You've done so very well, 20% of the figure you started with is something to be very proud of. Here's hoping to more of the same this year.
