How did your daughter's GP appointment go?
Thanks Fluffies. We weren't especially close to this relative so we're not really grieving as such, but I'm particularly useless at funerals (I'm a sobber!) so we're dreading Tuesday.
Miss Happy's appointment was eventful. She developed a terrible migraine during the car journey there, which was in full swing during her appointment leaving her completely unable to talk or see anything. She already can't see much because her world is spinning through the vertigo, and she was frightened she was having a stroke. So were we to be honest. The GP thinks the migraine is linked to her medication so told her to stop taking it immediately. That was Friday and the migraine has thankfully passed. She doesn't seem any worse without the medication. He is referring her to a specialist, and here comes the completely non-MSE bit - we are paying for a private consultation. We asked how much quicker a private appointment would be rather than going via the NHS, and he replied 'considerably'. It will be around £200 which, of course, we don't have, but she has been too ill for too long for us to wait. To see our beautiful, clever, athletic daughter sitting in a wheelchair and unable to read or write is just unbearable. We have to do everything possible to get this sorted quickly, and if that means borrowing money I can live with it.
She should be taking some of her 3rd year uni exams next week. The uni have been great so far and are looking at options for her degree based on the extenuating circumstances, but she has applied to different univeristies for next September to do a PGCE (teacher training) qualification, and at the moment it's not even looking hopeful for attending interviews
.
Anyway, my mind is now well and truly re-focussed on money-saving! This morning will be spent re-trimming our budget to pay for an already wealthy doctor to get richer!LBM Dec 2011. Aimed, but failed, to clear all unsecured debt by Feb 2019. Finally free of unsecured debt 21st May 21!

I think most parents would pay the extra I know I would. Its not right though that anyone should have to for something so important.:j0

Totally agree, you just do it no question. I've had to pay for dd braces!! She's 13 and so self conscious she wouldn't smile and was getting called names at school. But apparently they weren't bad enough for the nhs!!!
Hope they can help quickly. Must be awful for all of you xNumber of debts between us - 3 (2 @ 0%)0 -
Dear Mrs happy. I really hope you manage to get some answers and some help for your DD. I would do the same as you. I would definitely try to find the money to pay for a private appointment in such circumstances.
It is a horrible, horrible feeling so I hope DD is able to get some help very very soon.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Ditto what everyone else has said. You need answers for your DD and for yourself and if you have to pay to get those answers quickly, then that's what you have to do. It can't be easy on any of you.Diary: Conquering Debts Once and For All

An entirely proper use of credit, even when your backs are against the wall. Of course the NHS shouldn't have waiting lists, but in the real world it does and sucking it up and dealing with reality is what's happening here. Miss Happy's health comes pretty much before everything, I would have thought. I am so, so glad you've told Mr Happy about the debts because I absolutely know that he will be willing to trim his spending for his daughter.
I just have to walk into a church to start sobbing, and once the organ kicks off, I'm a total goner. The rellies will be really touched by how saddened you were by the passing.Better is good enough.0 -
Thanks everyone for your support and agreement that this is a good use of borrowed money

It's amazing how quickly things are happening now that we're paying for it. Little Miss Happy has an appointment with the consultant at a private hospital this afternoon. He specialises in not only ear, nose and throat problems but also balance disorders and vertigo. It costs £200 for the initial consultation and if he recommends tests/treatments those will be extra :eek:. Unless he feels these are time-critical (and depending on charges etc) we will likely ask for any follow-up work to be NHS funded. I have written out a very comprehensive list of questions to make sure that we get at least £200 worth of information and help!
Honey Bear - apparently there's a growing market in the UK for professional mourners who are paid to attend funerals to make the deceased seem popular. We should look into this as a businessette- we'd be rich!!
Yesterday's funeral went as well as these things ever can, and I cried through most of it, just as expected!LBM Dec 2011. Aimed, but failed, to clear all unsecured debt by Feb 2019. Finally free of unsecured debt 21st May 21!

Mrs Happy,
I know I am a bit late in posting here, but I just wanted to say that I totally and utterly agree whole heatedly that the £200 or whatever the final cost may be is well and truly money well spent for your lovely Miss Happy.
I truly hope today went well and some answers and help for her is found asap.
