Thanks :). I have great hopes for 2014 and am feeling super-positive. I mean, the chances of it being worse than 2013 are very slim :rotfl:!

It's heartening to know Miss Happy will recover, but how frustrating for everyone concerned that there is no clear timetable to that recovery. (I hope she's discovered Radio 4 to keep her braincells from atrophying.) In my experience universities bend over backwards to accommodate students' health problems, so you may find that if the situation drags on longer than hoped that she can defer, which would give her the chance to heal without worrying.

20% is a huge, huge achievement, and I think you should give yourself an achievement reward over new year. You've done amazingly well considering the self-imposed rules about not co-opting your OH because you didn't want to worry him in the early days. You've also had a lot of grim bad luck to deal with family health problems, animals and property-wise - and you've still managed to pay off 20%, which as you say, is a heck of a distance from getting further into debt. Just imagine how much more debt you'd be in if you hadn't had your lightbulb moment two years ago. Impressive.

    I am cheering you on.

Cheers Honey Bear for the support - both now and throughout my diary :).

I have mentioned Radio 4 to Miss Happy - I think it would do her the world of good. The Archers would make a good substitute for her beloved Emmerdale while she can't watch TV and, as an English student, she would really appreciate some of the plays and articles. We've also signed her up to 'Audible' which is the narrated book service run by Amazon. One or two of her uni books are available through it so hopefully it will stop her losing too much ground. The doctor has written a letter confirming that she won't be fit for her January exams so we now have to wait for uni to re-open so options can be discussed. Fingers crossed!

Ive just speand several hours reading the whole diary and its been captivating to see how well you have done over the last two years. You and your family have had a lot to deal with. So sorry to get to the end to hear about your daughter.

If I were you read back the first few pages of this diary and see why yiu have so many people reading.

Thanks Keeping Positive :). I took your advice and read back through my early postings. Then I read the more recent stuff, and it struck me what a moaning mare I have become!! So, my New Year resolution (alongside my traditional 'eat less, exercise more' :D!) is to re-find my positivity, count my many blessings, and just bl**dy well get on with it!!

Hope you will stick around :) x

  • Hi HappyNow,
I haven't been on the forum for quite a while but still get updates for a couple of the diaries I followed. I'm sorry to hear your daughter is ill but hopefully she will recover quickly.

20%. What an awesome achievement! I remember the early days when you were struggling to pay anything off and didn't tell Mr HappyNow.

We are still paying off our debts but not as quickly as I'd like. I'm thinking about picking up my diary again as I know it helps a lot.

    Keep on plodding on.

    Hi Happy,
I hope your daughter is feeling better soon. I have had it and know how horrible it is. I remember it took a long time to be able to walk upright. When I went back to work there was a long corridor where for some reason I couldn't manage to walk dtraight along. I looked like I was drunk which all the kids loved :D

20% paid off is fntastic. You must be really pleased. I must work out mine as we are both aiming for the same DFD :)

I know it is your birthday soon so have a great day! Try to get some time for you. I know I is difficult with DD poorly.

Thanks Pooh. I am excited about the 20%, but that remaining 80% is just taking the shine off it a bit :rotfl:! Labyrinthitis is a weird one, isn't it? Little Miss Happy also has the drunken walk, but she still has the souped-up version where she literally falls on the floor if she lets go of the wall! Good to have confirmation that people do actually make a full recovery from it though, 'cos looking at her now it's hard to imagine how that can be possible .....

  • HappyNow, one of the reasons we have managed to pay off so much is that we took in a boarder. It really has been a huge help. We're fortunate in that we have a spare room with it's own bathroom. So the only thing we really share is the kitchen. It works quite well.

Happy New Year, Happy Now! I hope it brings you peace of mind.

You're not a moaning minnie, you're a person who is tackling some very stiff challenges and sometimes the journey can seem long and overwhelming.

If Miss Happy emigrates to Radio 4, may I suggest a digital radio so that she can also get stuck in to Radio 4 Extra (and the World Service). I wish her as speedy a recovery as is possible, and coping vibes for both you and Mr Happy. The hands on practical day to day caring role is a toughie no matter how much you love someone.
    Better is good enough.

Thanks for dropping by Fluffies and Honey Bear :). I will be back to reply properly when I have a bit more time.

Life is not getting any easier here. Little Miss Happy is really not much better and has another GP appointment today.

Mr Happy's mum is still doing OK, but looking frailer day by the day.

Another family member on Mr Happy's side sadly passed away earlier this week so we have a funeral to attend next week.

Right, on that cheery note I must get ready for work :o!
