Home Insurance Discussion

I have home and contents insurance with Co-operative Insurance. Each year when I get my renewal quote, I go online and get a quote as a "new" customer and it is always cheaper. I then accept this cheaper quote and have done for several years. But the other morning, Martin Lewis was on TV and recommended not doing this but didn't say why. Does anyone have any idea why not ?0

You live in central London and it's your first Insurance.
Are you using comparison sites?
I'm not in Central London, I'm in zone 4! I did use comparison sites and was quoted around £35 a month. Again I found that quite expensive considering what I don't have. I think they assume I have all the mod cons when all I really need to ensure is my computer and washing machine from a burglary or fire or flood.
I did ask when calling and was told that my roof was not flat, despite the actual roof being several floors above mine. The neighbourhood watch thing seems to make no difference and fact I don't own things like a TV or cooker or plush shower or massive posh bed and so on, also makes no difference.
I wish there were an easy way to understand their quotes. I could understand if I lived in a bigger flat (it's a studio flat) shared with others or owned lots of things or had made claims before, but I have never even had home insurance before. Can't work it out, can't afford it.0 -
A flat roof can have a fairly big effect on your premium.
As I mentioned, your first home Insurance will be expensive as you have no record and living in London also has a big effect0 -
Does anyone know if I take out a separate buildings and contents insurance thro quidco for sainsburys if I will get 2 lots of cashback. Has anyone tried this with the same insurer. Or would I be better to choose 2 different companies, one for buildings and one for contents0

Quote to renew our combined Buildings & Contents insurance increased from £200 to £270!!
Did a search through a cashback site - £141 plus notified this morning of £13 cashback - result!
My previous insurer has rung me a couple of times wanting me to renew over the phone so I'll be asking if they can match this price. We'll see what they have to say........;)Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -

But u can't get the vouchers if u go thro TCB even tho TCB are offering £60 cashback. Does anyone know how to get this to work0 -
Have you tried clearing your cookies?
Note if you have got a quote direct from L&G they may not allow cashback via TCB even if you find a way to get it to work0 -
Think I'd rather have a definite £75-worth of M&S vouchers, rather than a possible £60 cashback.0
