^ As per TCB conditions for the L&G offer (similarly with Quidco).

I still think even tho it takes a while to come thro that sainburys offering £80 cashback via quidco is good deal plus gift card or nectar points. I think that will be my choice.

  • Your home is the place where you and your family can feel safe and secure, and a place where you can keep everything that is precious to you protected. Avoiding claims is about more than just preventing your home insurance rates from rising – although that is an important consideration for most people as well – it is about protecting the place where you store things that are precious and irreplaceable. Keep your home safe from damage as best you can. J
  • My renewal quote was for £328, buildings and contents. Obtained quotes from comparison sites which all came in around the £200 mark. Obtained an online quote from my present insurers which came in at £209. Telephoned insurance company who could not explain the vast difference even taking into account that 'new customers' get the best rates. Requested company not to renew my policy then went online and bought the exact policy at the reduced rate. 20 minutes work £118 saved
  • We were burgaled on Friday afternoon - it wasn't as bad as it might have been, just cash taken and a bit of a mess.
I haven't been able to notify our insurers esure yet, as by the time the police gave us an incident number their lines were closed for the weekend. Now I'm wondering if it's worth my while - everything I've read online and in the policy suggests I'm unlikely to get anything back. Even if I do, by the time I take off my excess, the remaining £350 (max) I'd get would be swallowed up by the loss of my 9 years no claims and the hike in premiums. Ironically, I had been planning on changing my provider anyway, as I'd realised esure were really expensive...
    Anyway, here are my questions:
If I decide not to claim, do I have to notify my insurer of the break-in - and if I do, will that affect my premium?
If I switch providers, do I need to inform them of the break in, even if I haven't made a claim?
I would really appreciate some advice!

Usually you are asked about losses as well as claims.

In which case you do have something to declare.

If you do not claim, who knows you've had a break in...so you do not need to inform them. Otherwise, as you guessed, it will be on your record (or more like your address) that you have previously claimed.

If you make a claim, and switch providers, you will need to make a claim. Nowadays with insurers and reinsurers and underwriters, chances are, they are part of a bigger next work group and have access to each others details, in particularly claims history of a property.

If you think the amount claiming is less then your excess, why claim at all?
  • My tale is similar to others...renewal up next week £172 an increase of £50 from last year, so I have today been through the sites and got quotes. I rang direct line to cancel, told them why and they matched with better benefits at £90 :j:j

Nice result but wish they would be honest in the first place. Also to the person burgled... One of the questions asked regarding claims, if you say yes, there is a section for yes, but not claimed as well as yes but claimed, for eg you made a police report etc etc. I had one and claimed, but my premium is still low due to the nature and amount of loss. Always be honest. :)
