  • Cheque finally cleared so time for another debt update!

    Big Barclaycard: £7,647.36
Baby Barclaycard (was Egg): £0 :j
    Flat Management Fees: £1,125
    Overdraft 1: £1,500
Overdraft 2: £500 (hopefully probably wont be a lot less this month)
First Direct Loan: £1,161.12 (due to finish 2012)

    Total: £11,934.48
(paid off 9.1% of original total) :D

May be able to do a little more but the overdrafts could be skirting close to the limits and its not pay day until next week. Want to target a £1k reduction in debt next month but not sure how feasible that is yet :rotfl:.

  • Got a couple of bits on ebay this morning, some spare nail polishes I had. Its free listing so nothing to lose - think one will sell and the other wont. One is quite rare though, it sold out over Christmas so fingers crossed. The last of my music magpie cheques finally cleared today so I can pay £44 off the Barclaycard. They wont make millions but every little helps :rotfl:

Am so glad I got a handle on the debts - its only been a month I know but in that time I've got a bit of my mojo back. January has been pretty tough and I'll have a bit better budget for the next couple of months hopefully. Today though it just makes me want to keep on scrimping to pay extra off the debt. With a real push and a decent bonus from work I can get debt free this year, or very close to it.

Hope you are all well x

  • Hi Scarlett,

Hope you are having a good weekend.

I think it feels really good when you know you have finally had your LBM and are properly working towards clearing the debt, I think that is a really big motivator for me seeing those figures come down.

    9% already is brilling :T
    Just keep swimming!
  • Well done Scarlett and one credit card less :D You must feel great :)

Hope all is well :D x
  • Thanks, is all good - fingers crossed I can keep the momentum going!

Can do a January final debt update now as payday is imminent and I dont expect anything else out of the bank. Managed to get a little bit off the overdrafts in the end - could transfer some of it to a credit card - they are on a similar rate. Will probably just pay some from next months salary now though. Still hoping February wont be too expensive a month  :rotfl:

  • Been playing around with the spreadsheets this evening and have a possible plan in place where I could get debt free this year. Its very aggressive so I need to learn to live on a very modest budget. If I can do that though I can hopefully pay a few hundred pounds a month onto the credit card. Can't wait for this time next year - will literally be over a thousand pounds a month better off between debts and student loan repayments. That is an insane amount of money :o how did I ever get into this mess

Found £10 hidden in my purse today too - thought I had spent up last week so have been eeking out the pennies all week (literally had the cheapest lunch I could source, paid for in shrapnel today :rotfl:). It would have been good to have saved this but the shock of being rich meant i burnt half of it on a takeaway for tea :o:D.

Have got a lot more going on in February than January though - will be harder to stay on track next month methinks.

Ah this bliss of finding that forgotten note:smileyhea, virtually nothing beats it

  • Haven't done an update in a while. Payday got here finally :j:j:j so I could pay off some more debts. Loan payment went out and then paid £400 to Barclaycard (prob £300 off the balance at a guess). I really want to pay some more off this month but will have to scrimp a bit to do it. See how the month goes.

Finding it quite hard on the spending front - had a couple of days where I slipped and cash just leaked out of my purse. Its only a small slip and I made myself retrospectively fill in a spending diary (not set up on my phone so no excuses!) so I can at least track how I'm stacking up against the full months budget. Have got a few birthdays and stuff this month and I think I'll buy the presents now so I can account for them.

The nail polishes I listed on ebay are going to sell - the rare one someone paid the buy it now price so happy about that. The other one hasnt fetched a great price but every little helps! Not sure what the fees will be but I'll pay £10 off the credit card - its not going to be far wrong.

  • Nothing major to report - keeping the spending diary up to date religiously which is a good habit to get into obviously. Trying to figure out what else I have to spend this month as there are a few things coming up that are going to cost money. I've figured out how to do everything on as little as possible but one minor irritation is a works night out. Its a paid for event so I'll look miserly if I don't go but its a drinking event so need to pay for a hotel to stay over (not drinking doesnt even look to be an option :rotfl:).

Still at least i know in advance so can try to save enough elsewhere to pay for it. It's looking like three weeks of cheap lunches and freezer surprise though :o. Damn this prioritising malarky :rotfl:
