I'm just waiting for the seasonal Plenty kitchen roll to be reduced :D:D I've tried others but my men are too messy to get by with the cheaper stuff :o
I'm down to my last 30 rolls so need to do a bit of a restock! Last time they were £1.19 twin pack with 1 extra and I got a load of 50p coupons so it made them 69p so haven't bought any for around 2 years will probably faint at the price now!

I've used Amazon grocery a few times this year too for pampers wipes, james wellbeloved dogfood, andrex, fairy all large amounts on for very cheap most were posted in the shop but don't drop or grabbits.
  • Tinned tomatoes is my weakness! 12 on top of my fridge and roughly 16 in my cupboard.

Perhaps we should all take a day visiting the big shops WITHOUT a list. The only rule is to buy everything for the storecupboard with at least a half price reduction.

I buy several months worth of tinned and dried food and household products at a time and then hide them away in batches. I will put a months worth of everything into a box and put that in a really out of the way place, put another month at the back of the wardrobe, and have another month in the cupboard or on shelves. If I ha dmore space I'd have more!

I haven't bought toothpaste, shower gel or washing tablets for well over a year now but am running out of the tablets. I do have lots of bars of soap though that have appeared in gifts so I'm going to have a go at laundry gloop.

Cards - I have a card chest I bought years ago from one of those booksale firms that came to where I was working. Every so often I top up the contents when I see appropriate cards on a good offer. It has saved me a lot over the years.

Bulk buying dry petfood has saved me lots as well - I buy on the internet and get about 6 months' worth at a time. That will get me free delivery of some very heavy packages and a very good cost per serving. I know I am lucky though, as I have the storage space to do this.

My next bulk buying venture will be Approved Foods or something similar, but as there is only me and the pets and I've got a well-stocked spare room I'll have a while to save up for an order :D

ETA re seasonal Plenty - Mr M heavily reduced the price of Snowman kitchen roll in early 2010 & 2011 - I don't buy it any more but it's worth looking out for if you do.

    Hi all:j

If you are having problems with creepy crawlies in your stored dry goods, try your local sweetie shop for the sweet jars - they generally give them away free. I saw them advertised on Freecycle & can get them from the sweet shop anytime now. BTW they are no longer glass but plastic, usually need a quick wash & dry & can store a decent quantity of rice etc. I did wonder if they could have returned them to the sweet manufacturers, but they told me they didn't want them back so they have to find a way to dispose of them :(

My pantry is stacked with the jars - filled with pulses etc & I refill them with my stash from the cellar. Packets are stored down there in a large redundant freezer - no idea how it got down there, or how to get it out, but you can store a lot of stuff in it & no rodents can get at it:T

  • As I analyse my spending on spreadsheets I become more aware of prices. I've been buying things and "thought" they were going up but in the last few months the prices have rocketed as I am looking at the price of things in more detail. So I went from weekly shopping to fortnightly and have noticed my bills coming down.

I think what I might do is go into Morrisons and clear their shelves of Value soup. They only have two flavours but they are not bad. It's jumped up from 17p to 24p. Pasta up from 18p to 25p. Rice up from 40p to 65p. Looking at my spreadsheets I now know how much I will go through in a year so I think I'll be buying about 6 months the next time I'm in.

I've an order from Asda coming soon. I've added a cheapo coffee jar but I usually go back to Nescaf! Gold Blend. I bought 1700g of coffee in 2011. It costs £6.48 for a 200g jar, or £4.48 for a 150g refill bag. I noticed Asda are doing 300g refill bags for £6.00 so they are looking likely to be ordered. The only downside is I'll miss out on that smell of a freshly broken seal on the jar of coffee.

In 2012 I think I will take my analysing of spending to new ridiculous levels. One thing I have noticed - my shopping at Morrisons is becoming more and more yellow (cheapo own brand stuff).

Any 3 for the price of 2 offers in future will be bought in bulk from now on. I've spent £1057.90 on food in 2011. Another £7 on milk etc on Friday and that will be it for the year. I'm determined to get that under £1000 in 2012. I may have to miss out on eating next December. I live alone just in case it wasn't obvious from the £1057.90 on food.
