A third of an iceberg past its best went into a recipe modified from the food aid cookery book. So for one:
Cook 50g spag and handful of frozen prawns
Meantime finely chop lettuce (he uses white cabbage)
Fry in butter (though dare say oil would be ok) with a finely chopped clove of garlic. Add 1 dsp dark soy sauce, 1tsp vinegar then add drained spag and prawns. I've alos done it in the past with tinned tuna or cashew nuts depending on what's in the house. Now to think about the sad 1/2 cucumber...

Ended up being away for an extra 4 days last week. So one large tub of natural yog and a sorry looking lettuce will be going out. Must cook the celery tonight to freeze for soups.

  • Well, leek & goats cheese pancakes were a huge hit, great lunch at a weekend and fab way to use up leeks!

However, managed to burn 4 flatbreads when I forgot about them under the grill, completely unsalvageable so another £1.50 added to my wastage total this month - £5.17! FAIL!

  • I haven't done any of this challenge for aaaaages! Really need to get back into it, especially seeing as we've got more money going out than we've got coming in at the moment :S So, I'm going to do £5 for the rest of the month, it sounds a lot I know, but I need to get back into the swing of things so it might not be that easy to begin with...
  • And so already I've had to throw out 1 apple and 1 leftover Easter cake that I made :O I thought I was being really good as well, just been stood making various individual fruit crumbles to use up some apples and pears (even threw in a few fresh raspberries to make them extra tasty!), but had one apple in the bottom of the bowl that was just beyond being saved :( But 3 apples and 3 pears were rescued before they go off, yay! :)

So, that's 15p for the apple, and 16p for the cake :(

Same here too:( Life has just got in the way - family members being ill and me too -then Easter holidays were a nightmare:( Plus my income has dropped again so belts need to be tightened even further -right this minute I could scream "I give up" but instead I shall declare the half tomato that went to mush instead at about 10p's worth instead.

There,am starting to feel more better already :o

I've been the same, life just got too much, in the space of 3 months I lost a baby then lost my job, so money's been really bad, been suffering depression with it all and then got really sick last month from being so run down :( But I'm getting better now and have just found a new job, so it's given me a bit of a kick up the backside where everything else is regarded I guess! Now I'm determined to get back to saving money as best I can and making homemade grub to be healthier, and things like this challenge will definitely help :) Hang in there, we're meant to overcome things life throws at us I'm sure :)

Yesterday there was a slight disaster with my freezer door being left open by the other half, however I didn't lose as much food to it defrosting as I thought I would, but I do have to declare:

    - 1/2 bag of prawns (76p)
    - 1/4 box fishnfingers (50p)
    - a pack of bacon (90p)

Managed to save a bag of Quorn mince by thrwoing it into the slow cooker before work yesterday for a chilli con carne, and saved a pack of naan breads by giving them to my Mum, who was having rice and curry for dinner last night - perfect! :)
  • have been away for a couple of months...life happens....am back on the wagon now though....nothing to throw out and a clean slate to start upon....woohoo!!!:D
