Thanks Pixnmix, I will heat it up for lunch today.0

Oh, I have fallen off the wagon!
I've just cleared out my fridge and thrown away the following
4 tomatoes
a pot of natural yoghurt
half a tin of soup
half a carton of smoothie
I'm embarrassed at how I've let my frugal ways go, and am now determined to get right back on the wagon and stop throwing food away.
I've got a 1kg bag of carrots desperately needing used but no clue how to use them.Ninja Saving Turtle0 -
Carrots are great for throwing into soups, stews casseroles, stir-fries, salads etc.
Not long back I had most of a 1kg bag of carrots to use up and decided to chop them all up, portion them in small food bags and freeze them, just taking a bag out to throw into a meal when cooking0 -
Why not chop them up finely, add water and a couple of stock cubes, salt and pepper, simmer for 30 mns and call it soup? or chop, blanch and freeze them?0

I have to declare:
5 mini tubs of low-fat humus. It wasn't very nice and the stuff always goes off so quickly. It was 2 for £2 so let's say £1.67 wasted there. I know I can use LO humus in a flatbread type dish but does anyone else have any other ideas to use it up? Can I perhaps freeze it to use later?
1 small pot natural yoghurt. Just forgot about it, had intended to stir through some strawberries for a healthy dessert but the strawberries had gone as well. Pot = 50p, strawberries (half pack and they were on offer) = £1.50.
So far this month = £3.67 - not great!! Really need to get back into the good habits I had before the move.
We're returning to planning our food, organizing the fridge regularly and trying to be imaginative with LOs. Currently have a portion for 2 of rice from last night's dinner to think of something for...0 -
Um...
Remember I said the other day that I'd used up my salad stuff and was concentrating on nice warm soups and stews during this cold snap?
So guess who found two tomatoes skulking in the fridge?
So far this month, with the tomatoes and a few tiny scraps and crumbs and things I'm at 50p.
If I can keep this up that will make it my best month ever since we started this challenge.I'm pretty sure that you can freeze hummus.

Wow - LO rice is delish!! Poach a chicken breast in stock, any stock will do, then tear it up. Take a few sliced LO veg (we used a green pepper, a leek instead of onion, and a couple of mushrooms - all a couple of weeks old), some garlic, a couple of chillis and some soy sauce. Throw the whole lot, with the rice, into a wok and fry together. Absolutely fantastic. SO glad we didn't throw that rice out like we normally do (or leave it in the fridge intending to do something with it but then it's a few days gone so we have to chuck it).
We were also careful with how much chicken we put in the dish - we poached 2 chicken breasts but didn't need to use all of it. The best of part of a whole breast is now in the fridge. Along with some LO sliced & cooked potatoes and some black olives & feta cheese that I rescued from a pub shared platter. I reckon all this together with a couple of oldish tomatoes I've got with a spoonful of creme fraiche and herbs would be amazing. Another fab waste-free dish!
Also got some fab leek & goat's cheese pancakes planned for this weekend to use up the rest of my leeks - can't wait! :T0 -
Hmmm 1/2pint grape juice that noone will admit to pouring. The joys of having four late teens / young adults in the house. On the upside one ofthem bought a quiche. Half leftin the fridge, eat by today. They're all off to edinburgh so that's my lunch sorted :money: though the house'll be quiet tomoz
