    OK... here ya go... you get three guesses and only three...

    Who was it who made themselves two slices of (reduced wholewheat and wholegrain) toast and left the second one under the grill to keep warm while eating the first one...

    ..and found that second slice three days later?

    Don't worry......I normally do this with left over Roast Potatoes and find them a week later after trying to put aanother tray in the oven and it won't go....needles to say they are beyond redemption at this point :eek:.

    Re the sundried tomatos...I would use thema nd not worry. Infact I do use things that are vegetable based, in oil, in a jar and kept in the fridge ages after the date... and I am still here!

    My challege isn't going so well because I have been so busy that I haven't had time to check the fridge as much as I should. :oTherefore I have to report the following have been assigned to the bin:

    3 satsumas
    1 slice of ham
    2 olives
    2 tomatos
    2 carrots

    The cost I think is about 80p, although techically the ham and satsumas didn't cost me anything because Mum gave them to me.

    Still no more throw aways, I must say I am proud of myself!!
    I think its because I am keeping my cupboards and fridge pretty empty and so I am very aware of what I have in and what I need to eat.
    I am getting a little bored of chicken though... two weeks meals from one chicken so far and still have tomorrows tea to have!!
  • Even with just bones left you can make a stock - crush em and break em up and freeze em in a freezer bag. Wait till next time you have a carcass, don't take ALL the meat off, don't chuck stuff like skin or cartilidge etc, it's great for a jellified stock, and then put the whole lot in a stock pot with a couple of old carrots, old celery, some herbs and pepper and old onions. Great stock.

    Thanks Firemunckin - I do normally make stock from the bones but I did a recky of the freezer yesterday and I have 4 half pint bags of the stuff in there ready to be used. - but I don't like chicken soup- bizarre I know,so intend to use in stews or risottos. I just couldn't physically get another bag of stock in freezer!:rotfl:

    I did though boil the bones and stripped it completely of every scrap of meat - normally would have given it to dog but adding the bit of left over bacon and mayo and used it as a filling for DD2 sarnie for lunch today :whistle:she never complained ....but I think dog was put out a bit.

    INGREDIENTS
    6 slices white bread (stale bread works really well)
    20g butter
    Marmite
    100g grated cheese
    3 eggs
    250mls semi skimmed milk
    Freshly ground pepper

    You will need a medium sized oven proof dish.
    Pre-heat oven to gas mark 4 or 180C

    METHOD
    1 Butter the bread and then spread on marmite. Cut slices of bread into 4.
    2 Lightly beat eggs.
    3 Whisk the mixture and season with pepper.
    4 Dip each piece of bread into the egg mixture and cover the base of the oven proof dish. Sprinkle this layer with some of the grated cheese and follow with another layer of bread and then cheese until both used up.
    5 Pour any remaining egg mixture over the top.
    6 Put in pre heated oven and let it bake for 30 minutes until it has turned golden on top.

    Serve with cherry tomatoes or baked beans.

    Very similar to the Cheesy Bread and butter pudding. I should have just added to that recipe!!


    Serves: 4
    Prep: 15 minutes
    Cook: 40 minutes
    Cost:84p per serving

    Spread 6 slices of stale bread with 25g softened butter. Halve and layer in a baking dish with 50g diced ham and 6 sliced spring onions
    Mix 500ml milk with 3 eggs and some seasoning.
    Pour over the bread and scatter with 50g grated cheese and bake at 180c for 40 minutes.
    Eat with baked beans and salad or green veg.
