Don't Throw Food Away Challenge 2012

So yesterday I didn't have the tom yum gai soup, but I'll have that today instead. Yesterday I cobbled together LO roast chicken, spoonful of homemade pesto, spoonful of creme fraiche, spoonful of rice and 3 very soft cherry tomatoes - microwaved the whole lot together and mixed it up, very lovely with a bit of salad and grated parmesan. Usually all stuff I'd have thrown away so quite pleased :A
The flapjacks were good but the recipe I used had an awful lot of sugar, butter and golden syrup in it. They're nice but very sweet and very sticky/greasy so think I'll use less butter next time and see how they turn out. Still, all made from stuff in the stock cupboard and the raisins and oats I didn't want to throw out.
Also saved (although not strictly food) were the rose heads from a bunch of flowers I bought reduced in Tesco about 2 weeks ago. I find dried rose heads look beautiful in a bowl and keep for years. The ones I had were pink and white so they were snipped and are currently looking pretty on my kitchen window sill.
We had the breaded fish yesterday evening with the slightly yellowing broccoli, blanched then stir fried in chilli oil - really yummy. Sadly - the OH decided he wanted a parsley sauce with it (?!) but he messed it up so about 50p wastage there, and because he'd poured it all over his broccoli he didn't eat it all so another 15p there. Grrr.
