I like that list Kerfuffle, and I like Gok's capsule wardrobe of 24 items. My trouble is I have a messy job so it's easiest to live in jeans, T shirt and fleece, so I rarely get time to "dress up" but I still like clothes! So I have lots of things I wear for 'best' but not very often, and I can't free them at work cos they'd get spoiled.
Maybe I should try the opposite of dress-down Friday and dress up! (Oh and ask my boss to let me do all the clean, computer-type sitting down jobs on a Friday!)
I'm impressed with how many people aren't on here declaring spends, iyswim, but I'm trying to remember I don't need to deprive myself completely - just to consider each purchase carefully rather than buying on a whim when I get an attack of the spends!
Hmm, food for thought there. Wanders off mumbling to herself...

freedom friday, wearing turquoise linen pants(East which now fit as managed to lose a few lbs:j) with sleeveless turquoise T shirt(also East) and ornage cardi (Next) to match orange nails:rotfl:I don't usually do block colours esp bright ones as like a print in the top or bottom.
watched Mary,s bottom line again, don't you just love little Andrew?not sure the knickers are my style but good luck to her, brought back memories of the 70s when I worked at Kayser Bonder bra factory near Brighton!!and 98% of Marks things were made in Britain!!!0 -
I like Gok's capsule wardrobe (and Tim Gunn does it in America too). But I can't believe that anyone would be happy to only have 24 items - no matter how many outfits you could mix and match! I only go out dancing once a month and technically have a different dress for every month - but don't want to wear any of them!
Thanks for wardrobe list - interesting, I may do a stocktake of my own!
I do know that the one thing I don't need is jeans. I must have 20 pairs that I'll happily wear - they all fit and are nice (none over £40). However...what did I just do...I bought JEANS
Only £23 in New Look - some of those bright coloured ones (green), so at least they're different to the normal blue that I have so many of!
But I really need tops - I really struggle with tops! I'm not an odd size or anything - 10/12 26 year old battling to find her style I guess. I don't like anything crazy, but don't like the baggy tops that are in fashion. Want something plain coloured (not into patterns) but not just a plain cut - something more interesting. OK - so I'm just too fussy!!
Anyway, that's £50 spent Y2D

Kerfuffle: this is my problem (from the article you linked)
Take inspiration from fashion magazines to see how you can mix up your outfits. Don’t be afraid of looking silly, fashion is meant to be fun not restricting.
I'm too conservative! I was spending a fortune on boring lacklustre clothes that are uninspiring. Maybe that's why I'm finding this challenge easier than I should - I'm trying to only buy things that are on-trend, interesting or investment pieces. But I'm not confident enough to wear that stuff!Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge #148 - £59.93

Hi trying_2_b-good,
I understand what you mean. I'm very conservative with what I wear, and the last thing I want to do is to feel I look 'silly'. I try not to draw attention to myself with my clothes but in the past I've received criticism for looking 'boring and middle-aged' when I was wearing black work trousers and a white blouse that I wore underneath a tunic, and one time I was asked if I was 'on the game', presumably because I was wearing knee-high boots. I was also wearing a skirt that came to below the knees so even to this day I don't understand the thought process behind the comment, and I think it says more about the person making the comment than it does about me. However, because I don't want the attention, negative or positive, I prefer to remain conservative and safe. Having said that, I liked the points in the link that mention about wearing dark tights with a summer dress, and also creating a silhouette with a belt and I like it when I see people accessorize clothes with scarves, and I think maybe I should try to adopt some of these tips to refresh my wardrobe without going to any mega expense.
Incidentally, last summer I bought a summer dress from the charity shop for $5 (just over 3.00 GBpounds), I matched it with a wide belt I already had, wore it with fishnet tights  :rotfl:I already had, and the knee-high boots that I hadn't worn since I received the negative comment 2 years ago. In my opinion the outfit looked great, my hubby liked it, and it only cost $5.00. As far as I'm concerned it was a win-win
Sorry for the waffling.
Just so you know, when I bought the fishnet tights they came in a pack of 2, the first pair I wore in 2005, the second pair I wore in 2011, I knew if I held on to them long enough I'd wear them again at some point :rotfl:. But what's even more laughable is that I've emigrated to Canada in the mean time and these fishnets have made the journey with me :rotfl:0 -
No additional spends from me but did manage to reorder a pair of the jeans I bought the other week with an additional £5.50 off - have some things to take back tomorrow so should have a total to-date after that.
I've been watching Mary's Bottom Line too, I love progs like that and totally agree that we gave all our good manufacturing away in favour of cheap and throwaway and it's coming back to bite us on the bottom (sorry, no pun intended).
I tried to buy a pair of the knickers online but HOF has sold out and nowhere else stocks the XS ... more knickers please Mary! :rotfl: I am fortunate that I am in a position where I can choose to pay that little bit extra for a pair of pants if it supports the British economy, and they might make a nice change from my normal boring M&S selection.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

The comment about the knee high boots is ridiculous! And 90% of women in the UK wear them all winter! I'm also a fan of fish net tights and will wear them to work with a below the knee pencil skirt and courts. If the skirts long enough and the shoes are more conservative (ie not 5 inch stilettos!) then I think it looks stylish not slapperish.
I have a million scarves in my wardrobe - I must remember to put them on occassionally to brighten myself up!
This weekend I freed a shirt and blazer - it was for fancy dress and I was one half of Jedward :rotfl:Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge #148 - £59.93

:rotfl::rotfl: that's one of those things you only ever admit to, to either, a very close friend, a room full of strangers or an anonymous forum. :rotfl:0 -
