Aww when i told my coursemates and flatmate they laughed it off too, but you can do it if you're focussed enough! Personally i'll be pleased with myself even if i only last half the year without going over budget (£240):jdarwins_mum wrote: »Great news on your no spends Kerri Gt, let your mothers laughter ring hollow and allow it to spur you on to beat your target! :j

Awww, thanks for the support guys. My mum wasn't being mean, but does know I can shop when I put my mind to it, oh yes, that would be why I'm here
shebangs - I agree, the boots do sound a necessity and £40 for a pair of good quality boots is a bargain. Hope you're ankle is better soon and won't ask what you were doing falling down rabbit holes - are you secretly Alice in Wonderland?Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

I am doing well so far, having only spent £1 of my £100 budget, but I am worried its not going to last!
I have a 'thing' about doing laundry. I wash my clothes so often that I don't know if they are going to survive a year! Does anyone have any advice on how I can make my clothes last longer/stop washing them so much etc?
I am trying with Freedom days as I really need to spread the wear out throughout my clothes but I really am a creature of habit0 -
Hi found a fantastic little website last year if you like fashion and good quality (who doesnt) its called www.everything5pounds.com/ have bought a few a few things from there all have been awsome and look expensive for a lot less. Things sell out very quickly so sign up for the emails and get in there first. I hope this helps people with there finances. The clothes they sell are womens and "tween" girls. No mens or boys unfortunatley. My favorite are there boots and handbags, need to stay away from the handbags as they are my weakness:o

Hello & welcome to Adela31 & fritillaria
- katy271 : do your paper vouchers have barcodes or numbers on them ? If so then I'd imagine you just enter the numbers ... not sure though as not tried it myself, I ventured in to the store last time I had any.0 -
Hi Lula,
There is a long code on the back of each one. I am going to give it a go and hope for the best!0 -
how do all
I braved my town centre on Friday and wondered around m*s and decided that I had most of what they had on offer, carried on around their per un* and feasted my eyes upon their reduced jewellery and fell down at two necklaces one down to £1 which I can use the cord with my other dangley necklaces and the other down to a fiver (from £21.99) and looks amazing if I say so myself so I have spent £6but on the positive side, no clothes buying which is pretty good for me.
Have started looking through my wardrobe and its amazing how much stuff I have which will go with other items that I hadnt thought about so this challenge is making me look at my 'stuff' with new eyes and liberating those loved items once again!SPC Nbr.... 1484....£800 Saved £946 in 2013)

I need some new friends - or I need to try and presuade my friends to join me on this challange. This is the only way I am going to suceed with this, when they are going 'oh its only a tenner' all the time when perving at items, it is going to kill me lol.
Ok so i have to declare:
£10 monsoon cardigan - I wanted a new works cardigan and was looking at £7 in primark for one, so i guess not too bad, its a lovely peach batwing one that will look lush for autumn. Plus I was embarrised to return the swimming costume in a shop like that for £10!
£12 on a circle dress from Dorothy perkins - Wanted this in november for £30 but they didnt have my size. VERY annoyed though as they have failed to take my tags off AGAIN so i have a security tag on my dress. It just makes shopping that little more difficult when you have to return to the shop with everything they fail to take the tags off :@
£2 for a pink blazer from Debenhams, this will look beaut in spring, and I did notice that the 'new season' range in next had a pink blazer, so hopefully a worth while investment
so thatss £24 i have to declare.
Considering using my xmas money for the cardigan though.
I have some money on my credit card thats actually in 'credit' - I had quite a large return just before xmasso i've decided instead of using this is a 'extra clothes allowance' im going to build it up towards my holiday
Also - I do have £10.80 in my 'work dinner money' pot that hasnt been spent.
so basically, I have something like £30 to last me on a shopping trip to Manchester and a shopping trip to London... god help me... please?!
On a plus side I did put a lovely dress down in MS from the per una range, as i couldnt decide if it was slightly too old for me
Does anybody else find, its the company you keep that makes it hard to 'not spend' my friends see me as a young woman with a good job and very little outgoings so dont understand why i would be doing this challange. When in fact, im doing it, so my money that i would sqonder can be spent on more worthwhile persuits.

To be fair to most of my friends, most of us think we should save a bit more than we do (prob due to me banging on about it so much :rotfl:) I do have one friend who is terrible at spending £10 here and there saying 'it's only a tenner' until I point out that a few of those tenners soon add up, and she'd prob be much better investing in an item for £50 she'd wear loads, than cheap £10 items she wears once (if that) and then never again. Have you actually explained to your friends about this challenge and what you want to achieve from it?Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

thriftwizard wrote: »Aaargh! Fell from grace big time & bought myself a pair of warm, comfy, practical boots in Clarks sale for £39.99... In my defence, I do own a reasonable pair of winter boots, but I can't wear them at the moment or for the foreseeable future; I've injured my ankle (falling down a rabbit hole) and the zip on my boots just cuts into the damaged bit really painfully after a bit, even with a bandage on. These new ones are pull-on ankle length with no zip to buckle & rub - nice & soft. I'll just have to wait until the ankle's better before I can wear the others again, but in the meantime my feet were like blocks of ice at work, which has a damp & icy concrete floor under a thin layer of polyprop tiles. Ah well, I don't need very much else, so hopefully will manage to stick to target over the course of the year...
The winter leather boots I bought for both my teen DD's were in the sale and before I let them wear them I actually added extra rubber soles to both pairs - bought these off ebay did it myself for £8 each pair I think - I did this last year with their school shoes(decent makes) including the heels - this made them wear out the soles & heels I put on,rather than the actual shoe but got the cobbler to do it (cost a fiver extra I think) then I realised I could buy the soles & heels myself ,they usually come with the glue and a little tool to help roughen up the surfaces of the heel and shoe.
Therefore they last longer and I can repair the soles rather than buy new ones as ulimately the soles wear out faster than uppers.
