  • I'm back after a few months being AWOL, on the plus side haven't bought anything new since the beginning of June on the downside the finances are in a terrible state. I'm thinking of setting myself a challenge not to buy anything for a whole year. Is this possible? What do you ladies think? the problem is I don't have much in my wardrobe to start with.
Has anyone actually gone a whole year without buying clothes/shoes/handbags/coats etc?

I have, the last item I bought was a dress from the charity shop in July (I think) 2011.

I'm on a mission to downsize every area of my possessions, and clothes are just one part of it. No more toiletries, books, magazines, DVDs, ornaments/nic-nacs, cleaning stuff, bedding, crockery, glasswear etc etc etc.
  • I haven't been on in ages but I had a no spend August. Think I am going to have to get a few work things in September though. I was holding off buying things until I had lost weight but that hasn't happened.

  • As a long time lurker the time has now come where I think I better join you all as paying for my son's driving lessons is crippling me!

I will try and wear more of what I have already got which if I lose a little more weight will be even more still.

As I am new to this put me down for £100 for the rest of the year. Hoping to come in well under but have a dreadful habit of charity shopping when I am depressed so hoping to break that habit FAST.

    Wish me luck :)

  • Welcome aboard Swampmonster, lots of support and encouragement here.

I am declaring a whole week of buying no items of clothing! This is a first for me I think. I am doubly amazed as I had some birthday money and vouchers and have not been near a shop! I am concocting some "interesting" outfits from what I have. Like many on here, I am hoping to lose the stone that seems to have attached itself to my middle. The idea is that I can get into all the lovely things that I spent a fortune on last year.
    Take care all

    Welcome aboard Swampmonster :)

I'm not sure if I confessed but I bought a striped blazer type thing from Primarni the other week for £15 - kinda has an element of mod and element of 80's about it, but without the shoulder pads. Tried it on in the shop and it fitted really well.

Wore it out for the first time on Sat night with OH with a vest and high boots and then today at work with some sandals, skinny jeans and a tshirt underneath. Got lots of compliments on it, although was deff channeling the 80's a little more than intended :D

That's fab Kerfuffle, that's what I'm trying to do too. Just have to keep reminding myself I don't need to keep buying stuff.

£2 in a charity shop on a long cardigan with hood for those draughty winter days. M&S, I'll have you know!

  • Going to declare £5.76 on a nude lacey t-shirt from New Look via ebay.

Really been making an effort to wear more of what I already have and even if I do say so myself I look and feel better as a result.

I have now officially declared Saturdays 'skirt Saturdays ' much to my husbands delight ;). I have loads and never get round to wearing them but this will make me. It's nice to feel a little more feminine.

Would love to see others embrace the 'skirt Saturday' movement if they fancy it?

    Have a good day :)
  • Well I have well and truely fallen off the wagon, have easily spent my budget in last couple weeks. I get bored i go shopping and but things i already have in a different colour not what i need.

I need someone to show me how to put outfits together to suit me & have confidence to wear them!

    Eh xx

Swampmonster - I dont even own a skirt, have dresses but rarely wear them.
