In the past I have received....a loaf of bread and a saucepan, (I hate cooking). Different years but same person! :o

Oh...and another year I got a box of Cadbury Roses chocs...been opened and the purple ones removed and box sellotaped back up....from same person! :p
  • I've definitely had some "why?" presents but fortunately I've forgotten them all because dodgy presents go to the charity shop the first day they open after xmas.

I can't understand why the kids weren't pleased at Christmas when i bought them a box of batteries and wrote on it 'toys not included'.

My mother asked this year if my husband would like a shaving set - he's had a full beard for 10+ so I suggested not.

When i was a teenage student & size 10, she used to get me size 20+ giant knickers for xmas to 'keep me warm' - not as any kind of joke - she thought this was a good idea.

Past gifts have included a set of butchers knifes (i've been veggie for 20+ years).

The fun is not in receiving the gift - it's in trying to find an appropriate reaction so's not to hurt but still not encourage her to get the same thing again. SHe really enjoys buying and giving and i've given up trying to reason with her, unless it's freakishly expensive and utterly useless in which case i encourage her to send it back and get a refund.
Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.
  • I once got a care package from my ex's parents which included a nearly full (two missing) packet if cigarettes. Neither of us smoked.

Who buys JimJams in their normal size..most people go for 2 or 3 sizes bigger they are meant to be comfy
I buy them in my size so they fit. Pyjamas are made loose so your own size should normally fit. I did buy size 16-18 when pregnant though (normally a 10-12 in jammies!).

Encouragement always works better than judgement.

  • All of the above is the reason me and hubby have at long last told everyone we are no longer buying christmas presents.

Phew! no more treking to the charity shops with tat.

I am a dog lover but if I see one more dog ornament come out of wrapping paper well I wont be responsibe for my actions

I was talking to my mum earlier and she said that almost bought my DH a cookbook for Christmas.

He's a retired executive chef who was at one point in charge of 4 hotels. :D

She has this thing of talking to him about recipes she's seen on the copious amounts of cookery programmes she watches on daytime tv, and asking him how he makes certain dishes...even though the most adventurous thing she makes is reheated ravioli. :rotfl:

My mother bought me a kindle despite the fact that I have been saying for the last year that I don't want or need one.

I was more upset with the fact that it must have cost her a fortune and I would have been just as happy with the make your own gingerbread house she also got me.

I will of course use it but not sure for what at the moment as I usually go to the library and now feel like I have to spend money on books (even if they are cheaper than physical books)
