Useless/unwanted gifts?

I forgot the other exMIL.
A lovely box of various makeup. Looked wonderful, led me to happily ignore the dodgy smellalike perfume I knew she picked up from her charity shop job on Fridays.
Until I opened it to realise the eyepencil had already been used: that's right - secondhand makeup that couldn't be sold in the charityshop. _pale_
The following year, a hot chocolate set, ostensibly from the store she worked in the rest of the week. Then I looked a little closer. The chocolate was missing, the cocoa had been replaced with out of date coffee and there was a gift tag in the bottom of the box that showed it had been in the charity shop for at least 3 years.

I told her I'd tried 3 different electric blenders but none worked correctly so I'd bought a £5 hand stick blender from argos which had trumped the lot of them, and how pleased I was to get such a great item so cheaply.
I unwrapped our "main" present which was a massive kenwood food processor with about 10 different accesories. I was mortified and the aunty went into the kitchen sobbing. I felt awful but how was I to know she'd buy a massive thing like that, especially after he'd been on solids for 2 months! this was 2008, and I recently gave the thing to a friend still sealed.
How is that a cr4p present??? You can always use it, food processors aren't just for baby food! Why were you mortified about it? And your reaction made her cry? That's awful. I don't get it on this one. :huh:0 -

I think because she had already told the relative they were all rubbish, for mixing baby food, and she was embarrassed at having put her foot in it and upset the poor woman without meaning to.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

Oooooh I get it now! The aunt had already bought the gift BEFORE that conversation! Sorry, my bad.
Edit: I still think it's a great present though. I would have loved it.0 -

yup thats bang on, although I do think she was really over the top about it - she started the conversation knowing she'd bought a processor and if I'd have known I wouldn't have told her about the duff ones I'd used.Oooooh I get it now! It was probably really expensive and that's part of why I felt so bad about it. I didn't need it and it had too many accesories (I don't really like clutter) and a friend needed one so I gave it to her instead.0 -

this birthday My boyfriend bought me a doll,it is really amazing,i'm 23 already.
in my opinion,that's a little waste of money.0 -

Strange. My DD's father has insisted since she was 7 years old that she was too old to have dolls or teddies. So she got them from me instead. Both reactions to dolls are inappropriate, to me.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
This year I got all of the same person ( my auntie and uncle who are very well off)

I was very fortunate this year, and everything I got was lovely, and fitted. However my 72 year old mother received a keyring off her cousin with a red stiletto hanging from it. She opened it in front of me and my daughters ( the cousin wasn't there) and we made a joke about it looking like the Wizard of Oz, while both secretly thinking it looked like a hooker's keyring! My sister also did rather badly. She'd pointed out a scarf with charms on to her new step mother in law. She got told they couldn't find one of them so they'd bought her three other scarves instead. One looked like something the wise men would wear, while the oter two, both exactly the same but one in pink and one in black looked like lace place mats! Thankfully, I'd got one of the scarves with charms on off one of the children in my class, so gave it to her as I'd never have worn it!0
