Useless/unwanted gifts?

After reading Meritaten's thread about her unwanted pearls, I thought it would be ever so entertaining to post what our worst unwanted or useless gifts have been.
One ex gave me an unwrapped Mars bar for Christmas once - he later admitted to forgetting to buy me something, panicked and nipped to the off-licence on the way to mine on the day. I was 33 at the time.
The funniest has got to be from my ex-MIL - she gave me a men's perfumed gift set...she thought it was for women because it included shower gel.
The one that upset me the most was from my ex - I'd given birth 5 days before Christmas and so I expected something really nice to celebrate both occasions.
I got a singing lobster that sounded like the devil incarnate because the batteries were running out. :undecided

Stone walls do not a prison make, nor iron bars a cage.

My partially sighted Nan asked if we thought a secondhand popup book she'd dug up from somewhere would be ok for a family toddler... on closer inspection, it was a sex book! :eek:0

I shouldnt - I really shouldnt tell you all this - but - I will anyway if everyone PROMISES not to tell my kids!
they all chipped in to buy me and thier dad a gift as thank you for their christmas dinner (I fed all three of my kids, thier partners and all the offspring yesterday and no I wont allow them to buy anything - its my pleasure to provide the dinner for all fourteen of us).
well, favourite daughter bought us .........er heart shaped thingys with bits of broken mirror in mirror in to go in the garden - to join the mirrored mushroom thingys they got us last year! if they keep this up I wont have room in my pots for my plants!!!
bless them - why doesnt she just ASK what I would like for a 'hostess gift'?0 -
My aunt always gives my brother and I the worst presents, it's a running joke nowadays (she doesn't know that though), about 20 years ago when I was about 10 we each got an electric stapler, this year we both got ...an electric stapler...with punch!! I put it up in the loft about an hour ago, never to be seen again.0

Oh a few years ago my friend asked her b/f at the time for a pair of sporty trainers to go running it, the present was under the tree when I visited. (they didnt live together by the way). It was a shoe box - so one could imagine she had the trainers she showed him and hinted about for weeks. Xmas Morning she opened her present (on her own) to find a cup and saucer wrapped in tissue paper (my friend was only in late 20's) what on earth did she want that for. When she told me she was so upset and was crying. Needless to say he is her ex now.

She is very emotional person she suffers from MS and finds it hard to get around and wanted the trainers to give her some incentive to try and do some exercise. The cup and saucer would have made her more prone to stay at home. Plus she had spent a lot of money on him getting him what he asked for.

The worst thing to receive in my opinion is perfume that is not to your taste at all, purely because you know the person will have spent a good amount of money on it, and if you don't like the smell you really can't wear it.
Probably why I very rarely buy perfume for someone unless I know it's one they wear or have told me they like. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
A black velvet head band with matching faux patent leather handbag. Both inscribed with my name (in the store) in gold glitter, from my Grandma.
A six yr old would have adored it. I am 40.
Oddly both ended up unexpectedly going off to a eastern European war zone in my brothers kit when he was on tour out there. He got ribbed summat rotten lol (to this day no one has owned up to putting them in there)Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...0 -
