Useless/unwanted gifts?

The worst thing to receive in my opinion is perfume that is not to your taste at all, purely because you know the person will have spent a good amount of money on it, and if you don't like the smell you really can't wear it.
Probably why I very rarely buy perfume for someone unless I know it's one they wear or have told me they like.
I completely agree. One year I got three bottles of the same Avon perfume that I didn't really like and I have just had to throw them out mainly unused because after a few years they were off - once again I was given another Avon perfume this year which really isn't my cup of tea at all - I really do feel it is a waste of money to choose a perfume for someone as not everyone likes to smell the same way - for example I hate anything too sweet or too musky. I only buy perfume for someone when I know they already wear it or if they have repeatedly admired it on me.
Oddest for me were a pack of micro fibre cleaning cloths and a toothbrush - it's hard to know what to say to those! I don't know why but I felt quite embarrassed upon opening a hair-removal device once especially when I didn't ask for it - I felt like people must think I'm hairy?!! I have to admit I'd be mortified if people did think that about me - I never bare my legs or armpits unless I've shaved them, in fact I get paranoid about it. This was a very expensive gift though and I have to say I am not fussy when it comes to gifts, I am always grateful.0 -

They are not black, they are a kind of bleached grey, the bits that look like creases are bleached bits. Just the thought of wearing them to her house is making me come out in a hot sweat. I should really try them on in the hope they do not fit...... They are really, really awful. I know I *should* be grateful but..... they are hideous. There is no way I am going to be able to wear them in public. I am 40.....!!

I know I saw that, and then I read the reviews, OMG, 'my grand daughter will love these - most interested in 'comfort.'.
I can't even get away with wearing them to walk the dog as I'll look a complete sap with those sticking out from under my trousers!! They are trying to be 'casual' but they are quite narrow and look 'smart'.
This thread made me try them on, I have some many problems getting shoes to fit me, I am disappointed to admit that they actually do fit.
My mother likes to wear tracksuit bottoms with shoes like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005ANS40U/ref=asc_df_B005ANS40U5840130/?!!!!!googlecouk06-21&creative=22134&creativeASIN=B005ANS40U&linkCode=asn

my aunt was well known for giving 'odd' gifts - but she outdid herself one year by giving my mum (her sister) who was in her seventies a 'barbie umbrella'! we all fell about laughing!0

you could always wrap them up and give them to someone else. Some years I've gotten presents and thought "oh great I can palm these off to x without having to shell out any of my own money!"0 -
This year I had a great one, which I feel bad about including, as it was accompanied by a very generous pressie! But, it was a fake (I hope) fur... thing! Not sure what it is, but I had fun yesterday playing 'get people to put their hand in the bag and guess' cos it felt really weird!
My MIL has given me a scarf that looks like a skinned Ewok!!!
Thankfully she is OK for me to exchange it if I want to and has included the gift receipt. Neither DH or I can work out how she got from the pashmina style scarf I showed her a few weeks ago to the skinned Ewok :huh:Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0 -
I think this is a scarf, but I've not studied it too closely, cos it gives me the creeps0
