FlatEric OFF TOPIC Have you considered looking for another job? You frequently mention how much you dislike your work and life is too short to spend so many precious hours doing something you hate. I know the job market is tough but it is much easier to find a job while you are employed. Now tell me to mind my own business.........
Hey thanks for your post.I agree with you but I don't feel the time is right to move jobs despite how much I grumble about it! I don't hate it but likewise I don't love it..... its not my dream job but then I'm not sure what my dream job is?! I'm grateful to be in work and however much I bemoan getting up and enduring the commute on a Monday morning, there are many that I suspect would gladly take my place.
Thanks for all the banana recipes. Fab :T Can't beat homemade cake.
Had family round for tea but left earlier than expected so catching up online and then plan to retire to the sofa with some stitching. Feel sad. little bro off on his travels soon - won't be back till xmas!0 -
Hello everyone,
Can join your cafe please? I have been looking at some of the amazing work you crafters are doing. I have recently started finshing off my half finished projects. My fiance and I are trying for a baby and it is taking longer than we thought so I need lots of project distractons to keep me from obsessing about pregnancy and conception stuff on the internet.
I am hoping to design and make some of my own cross stitch Xmas cards this year and hopefully I will manage to f-i-n-a-l-l-y finish my Joyful Snowmen cross stitch which is almost complete except for the backstitching.
Sorry I can't post pictures at the moment, I don't have a high enough post count yet.0 -
Hi everyone, what lovely work you have all done!
I am after a bit of advice but this may be the wrong place to post, so apologies in advance if it is.
My dd was introduced to cross stitching at school a few months back and absolutely loved it, I have done basic cross stitch but am no expert.
I was wanting to get my daughter a cross stitch kit (or similar) as a birthday gift as she adored doing it at school and has asked if she can do some at home but I don't know what will be suitable for her age, she is almost 10.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what would be suitable?
Many thanks in advance
J

Firefly - welcome to the cafe. Is the snowman this one?
If so get that needle threaded and backstitch away. It's a lovely design. If it is this one are you going to make it into a cushion. If it's not this one sorry, I'm sure yours is equally as nice.
Hopefully you should find us all happy to help, even if it is only by way of words of encouragement. Look forward to seeing updates once you can post pcitures. When you do post your pictures see Chicky's post on the first page as to how to do it - it's invaluable.Cross Stitch Cafe Member #59 :j

My3girls - Firstly welcome, and it is the right place to ask your question.
Anchor do a range of cross stitch called 1st Kit. I know that sewandso.co.uk sell, here's a link http://www.sewandso.co.uk/search.aspx?page=1
Across Town also sell them (and they are cheaper)
http://www.across-town-stitching.talktalk.net/anchor.htm
I've bought from both of the above sites and can recommend them. Louise at Across Town is very helpful.
There are probably lots of other kits available depending on what count aida your daughter used but it's always best to go for something that she will finish quite quickly and not struggle too much with so that it doesn't put her off for future. Having said that if there is something she really likes then this could spur her on to finish it, just check that the kit has full cross stitch only and minimal backstitch.
Hope that helps.Cross Stitch Cafe Member #59 :j

Thanks for the welcome Ailsb.

Morning one and all
Loving the updates - some great progress being made
sweetcarer sorry to hear about your problems with your inlaws - it must be so diffcult to resolve issues when there are large distances involved. Lovely to hear that your birth sampler was well received - it can be a bit of a risk when you don't know the recipient well (speaking from experience here and I am now very selective about who gets stitched gifts). Your blue sampler is delightful
nmm you weren't the only one missing out on the sunshine
Love the colours in BD and it already looks like fur
shelly great progress on "when" Looks really cute
augustsmummy Hope the referral appointment helps. Your comments about Mr Potato Head and your brother really made me smile. He must have a good sense of humour
Ailsb sorry can't help with the frame query
Lizzie Kate has a small chart using the shovelling snow saying
While I was looking on her site for the snow chart I saw this one which I think will appeal to many if not all of the married women I know
blue eyed girl Love the progress shots for SB
ejs thank you for persevering with the photo upload - it was worthwhile as your projects are lovely. I know what you mean about aida - I always find it really stiff when I use it occasionally and am always pleased to get back to linen or evenweave. I love the Make Do and mend with the sewing machine - think I've got that bookmarked in a magazine
FE thank you for not taking offence at my comments Where is your brother going? Will you be able to visit?
firefly welcome to the cafe; hopefully we will be suitable distraction and you will get those Xmas cards done. How many are you hoping to stitch?
my3girls - well done for encouraging your daughter to stitch. As some of us (myself included) can testify it is a lifelong pleasure through good times and bad. I recently bought a couple of little starter kits from BlackSheepWools for my grandchildren. The fabric has large holes (easy to see) and the designs are small and simple so easy to finish. They are also reasonably priced. I think the link takes you to the "under£5 " sale page so scroll down until you see the football, house, butterfly and heart. Then the next kits are a little more advanced but still very suitable for beginners.
Finally (for those of you who read to the end of this long post - thank you), an update from me.
Here was my latest Angel Stocking in early August before I broke off to do my Stitcher's Cushion

I finished the cross stitch at the weekend :j
Angel Stotcking for Ruby by stitchyfeather, on Flickr
I have to do another one as Ruby is awaiting a little sister in the autumn. I've decided to do the next one on white/silver evenweave instead of cream/gold and I will reverse the dress so green body and red sleeves. Then I will make both of them into stockings at the same time0 -
Thanks so much ailsb!
Those kits look great and just what I was after, I'm going to order the owl called zoe (it's her name too lol) and also the cupcake one!
I get what you mean about one that will take too long she might get bored but these look really good and only 10x10 so she should be able to concentrate on them.
Aww she's going to love them!
Thanks again
J
