Good finished by Ailsb1, on Flickr

    Or have I?

Do you think I need to do a small border, possibly just one or two stitches wide all the way around using variagated thread to pull it together? Feels as if it needs something near the last few lines, but not sure what.

    All comments gratefully received.

Looks lovely. If you are having it professionally framed I would go for a double mount (2 colours) and no stitched border. If you stitch a border the framing has to be absolutely "spot on" otherwise the border can look out of alignment (this is the voice of bitter experience here ). Perhaps add a button or charm at the end? LK often has buttons on her designs

I hope that someone can help.

I am going to attempt to mount some of my stitching and need the acid free stuff.
Where is the best place...in terms of cost and quality...to buy?

And any tips would be more than welcome as I will be learning from tutorials on line!

    Thanks.
  • These are the birthday cards I have been doing over the past week while the Olympics have been on.

Have started on a new page of Sleeping Beauty this afternoon and will post an update after the weekend.

Ailsb - I agree with FOS and go for a double mount and no stitched border and a little charm would just add a little extra special touch.

pws52 - sorry I can't really help with the acid free stuff you are looking for but I'm sure someone will be along soon to offer some help. I have made a note of an online tutorial for lacing the pics as we have not done this before and Sleeping Beauty is quite big so I think it might be needed. Good luck with your framing.

brednall - bet your mum loved her fuschia.

Its only 17.45 and its is so dark I'm going to have to have the light on already (don't tell :money: :D).

    Take care everyone

    Hi everyone :)

I searched and found this thread, just what I needed!

I did cross stitch when I was younger and would like to pick it back up again. I just wanted a bit of advice really on where to start.

I'm doing up my home on very tight budget but having lots of fun :)

I have found a few designs that I love and would be great in my living room, BUT I think I might be aiming a bit too high...

Here is the design I love:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Voodoo-Woman-2-Counted-Cross-Stitch-Kit-15-x-21-/160719941898?pt=UK_Crafts_CrossStitch_RL&hash=item256ba7b10a#ht_1470wt_1037

Will this be too hard for a beginner (I think I know the answer but just in case!)

Thank you all in advance :)

ETA: The design is not printed on the aida..
    Weight 21/08/12 - 11st 4lb  Target of 10st....
    11st 2lbs...

Do you ever get work days where you just wish you could hide in a corner with a brown bag over your head? That's how I've felt this week and I still have 2 days left....

There has been a distinct lack of cross stitch activity recently and I wonder whether this is contributing to how I'm feeling. That and everyone has holiday plans and I don't....

Anyhow. So much for my I've started so I'll finish.... Instead of stitching the bear that was in Cross Stitch Collection (holding butterflies), I'm now stitching the Fizzy moon xmas bear free with World of Cross Stitch Mag. I really really must stop starting so many projects.....

beg - those cards look fabby.

hi malfiore - that has the drawbacks of a) being quite large, b) being on black aida. but it is whole stitches which is always a bonus.

flat eric tis my first day backthis week tomorrow and I reallly don't want to so I kinda know how you feel. at the moment my team is distictly 'piggy in the middle' between managers other managers and staff - it's horrible.

i've lacked stitchy time too (mainly cause of my mood/ being sick/ lack of enthusiasm to do anything) but kids are finally in bed, hubby is in the pub (quel surprise) and I've finally eaten my tea and caught up on all my internet foruming.

pws52 - I have always used normal mount board from somewhere like Hobbycraft. I then cut it to see. The only problem is the mount, I tend to buy these ready cut from somewhere like Wilkinsons.

B-e-g - your age cards are lovely. What a good idea to have stitched these and managed to watch the olympics.

Chicky - hope you are feeling better. I'm sure a stitchy evening is just what the doctor ordered.

FlatEric - I've resisted starting the Christmas design from WOXS but I know what you mean. I am waiting for my fabric and floss to come from Across Town (it's in the post) so that I can start my HAED design. I can't settle to anything else at the moment. Not helped by not being able to find the Charlie Bear alphabet chart I was looking for despite finding the magazine that it came free with  If anyone can help I'd be extremely grateful.

Malfiore - that's a lovely design but I have to agree with Chicky it large and on black. You might be best to start off with soemthing smaller, however, having said that if you really want to sticth something this may motivate you to finish it.

Malfiore, i think it would be ok to stitch as your first project providing you have decent light and a white towel/paper etc underneath you should be fine. A big bonus is that its whole stitch only, nothings impossible. When i started back after about 10 years break i went straight into a huge african lions kit, i loved it and finished it eventually :rotfl:
