Hiya
I'm a big cross stitch lover, but over the past few years with uni and job/life have waned from my love (facebook not helped, lol ) Anyway, my family and I moved last year to Australia from Uk and have got back into my stitching, have been lurking on this forum for a while and you've all made me more eager. I've spotted a few designs that i'm planning to do, one being the 'A good marriage' and definately 'the Earth' one (hubby wants me to do that one). At the moment im doing a piece on black Aida with four 'big cats heads' on, its been a UFO for over 6 years, started it for my hubby and now am determined to finish the blooming thing, haha.
I've just had a big order from sewandsew.co.uk as i can honestly say that cross stitch is not as poplular here as in the UK, more the pity. The magazines are imported and are over $15 each and the patterns/kits i've found in the craft shops are really old fashioned and totally not me.
I just wanted to say hi, and you lot have given me loads of tips to better my stitching, keep it up.

The materials for my HAED have arrived.
It is the biggest piece of Aida I have ever seen. I'm scared!
The magic guide lines look like they're going to save me lots of time, so that's good.
But I'm still terrified
(The St Petersburg kit looks lovely, but it's 18 count black Aida, so that's going to be a challenge too. I'm beginning to doubt my sanity :rotfl:)0 -
thanks those who commented about flying - I'd even emailed the airline and asked! their response was 'it depends how strict security are that day'...!! Ive also checked on the directgov website that states sewing needles are allowed (as are scissors with blades under 6cm) so Im still non the wiser!! Im going to take it with me anyway - the worst that could happen is they will take the needle from me and I'll have to read during the flight (and at the airport lounge)!0

I've always got through security with a bit of sewing stuff in my hand luggage bag - never scissors though, I have one of these instead http://www.sewandso.co.uk/Products/Clover-Thread-Cutter-Pendant---Antique-Gold__CLO-CL455.aspx
Even when I own up to it at security, they are not interested in a couple of little needles and a magnetic chart board.
However, I have been asked to put it back in my bag by the flight attendants once. Other times, they just want to see what I am up to - I guess because they are noseyNot that there's much room in a plane to sew.
Actually knitting is ok too - as long as you take wooden needles. Metal ones need to be packed in your suitcase
If you're just putting it in your suitcase as hold luggage, there are no issues at all (except weight) - scissors, needles, a huge great big frame - they don't care0 -

Comment from my mum re. travelling with stitching...
If you have a clover cutter, wear it as a necklace. Take a spare needle (& maybe put one in your hold luggage too) and bring an envelope addressed to yourself & if they say you can't have the clover cutter etc, ask if you can post it back to yourself.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

I flew to London in January and only had hand luggage - it was more hassle restricting to the liquid amounts than it was to take stitching.
I took my stitching in a little case, and a clover cutter and there wasn't even a peep about it.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219.
