Just been mulling over the 'famous artist' question and have been having a nosey round this site

    Scarlet Quince
The pictures show you exactly how the finished work will look so you’ll never be disappointed with your results. You might mistake our pieces for the original, though — we use blended colors and a lot of detail to closely reproduce the original art.

Smaller version of Starry Night (230 x 181stitches)for those who like it :)

Free Mini Starry Night (100 x 80 stitches) that could be done in well under a fortnight I reckon

Not a famous one but how amazing would this look framed on a wall: Earth from Space

Edit to add a view from our side: Europe from space

    Yeah I'm still awake....and browsing sites :o

Any Angel fans out there? I'm thinking I would like to tackle this one. Guardian Angel created from a painting by Wilhelm von Kaulbach

  • Morning everyone. I'm just taking time out from building my ark (well that's what I feel like I should be doing:rotfl:) At leasat the wind is drying up some of the surface water while more falls but it's so dark and cold for June:(

Anyway at least this group is guaranteed to make me feel better and I've sat myslef with my back to the window to shut out the world

Louise David Tennant is a really good likeness. It does seem a bit random as to whether or not these work but this definitely does. I love DT as an actor but can't say I am a Dr fan (I prefer fictional medics such as Doug Ross and John Carter in ER, Gregory House or Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey in Grey's Anatomy).
Random question is interesting as are the answers. I've also done a Monet waterlillies piece with a painted background. I made it into a wall hanging. I've added a photo of it to the group Flickr account. I know what you mean about feeling like cheating but I do like the way it looks.
As for stitching other works of art - I love Monet and other impressionists
so love this one Umbrellas by Renoir. I also adore Turner but am not sure that his style would work in cross stitch.
Otherwise I am always drawn to paintings which feature stitchers and sewing such as this one Penelope by Gari Melchers or the Seamstress by Joseph Decamp
I also have a print somewhere of a Victorian lady reading in a beautiful garden which I'd love to stitch
Afraid I couldn't live with The Scream on my walls

Shelly - WOW WOW WOW You must be delighted with how Tiger looks and can't wait to see the final framed article. Agree you should hang it somewhere you will see it everyday

Flat Eric - hope to see your snail at some point over the weekend

JCS - Cats looks wonderful framed and you have made great progress on your next piece

sweetcarer - I've also got loads of left over lengths of thread so if Ailsb doesn't have all the ones you need just pm me. If I mailed at the weekend you'd get them Tues so should have time to stitch for your anniversary

Have a great stitchy weekend everyone

Hi - I have got myself a little confused - have you ordered the threads but they will be delayed or is it the card you are still looking for?

If it's the threads you need help with I have plenty spare ones kicking about, let me know.

JCS1 - your ats look lovely.

Shelly - I would want to look at the Tiger everyday as well.

sweetcarer - what floss are you after? I have loads of bits spare from kits if I can help at all. PM me if you prefer.

Thank you all for your kind offers (was really touched) - I found a cheap place online (threads for 39p each) and ordered them from there - it was just via their facebook page they said there would be a delay - guess I am just panincing wanting to get it done and framed in time. I am doing this - and thank you to you know who ;)

I am still looking for a suitable card to fit it - think the final size will be approx 4x6 - it should not take long - I have approx 12 hours to do it but if need be I could take it to work and do it instead of my blue sampler at lunch time. Talking of blue sampler not put an update for a while - so here it is as of yesterday.

Been really busy with work in the last couple of weeks with work so coming home very exhausted and no time for stitching. Been thinking of starting up a small avon business as hubby still not working and I have a few girls at work I could maybe sell to - I guess some money is better than no money. Think he is really getting down with it all.

Well its a yuk day out there - have to go and get a couple of things in town - kenco blue coffee only a pound in poundstreatcher so bargain!

Keep well everyone, where ever you are

    sweetcarer ;)

PS SHELLY love your tiger - very well done in completing it - you must be so very proud.

    so here's the snail.

I am hating the back stitch and have given up on it for today. I have already unpicked one of his ears as the back stitch didn't look right and of course it was impossible to undo the back stitch without picking out the stitches.... :(

It looks ok I suppose but not sure about it still.

Right, now I am settled back in at home here is my review of this month's WOXS:

Free Gift: Not really something I would stitch for myself or anyone else I know, maybe one for the charity pile.

Crafty Cat: I like it, but not something I would go out of my way to stitch.

    Summer Bouquet: Not so keen.

Baby Gifts: I don't ever stitch anything baby-wise, so not for me.

Riverside Scene: Nice, it reminds me of a place where I used to hang out as a kid, but not something I would stitch for myself at the moment as the whole 'river' thing is still a little too raw.

    Subs Extra: Ugly.

Idyllic Escapes: I like these, especially as I am a country gal, and all my family still live there, so I am sure these will come in very handy.

Toby the Fox: Cute but I wouldn't stitch for myself.

Romantic Cards: Not too bad, nice and modern too, which I am on the look out for, as my cousin is getting married next year.

Purses: The designs are okay but I wouldn't use those type of purses.

Dolphin: It's okay I suppose, and would be something I would maybe like to stitch in the future, but the dolphin is a little dark in colour?

    BBQ ABC: Not for me.

    Lucie Heaton's Furry Tales:
I really hate these designs, there is something odd about them!

All in all, not a very good issue, so I would only give it 3 out of 10.
Next issue looks a bit better though. I like the look of the kitten and the sweet peas. And I LOVE the London sampler! That might get on my '15 Challenge' for next year, and would make a good SAL!! I hope there are others, maybe a series? I would love to do a Leeds or West Yorkshire one!
Not so keen on the free gift though, really is there any need?

Right now a little eagle update :)

Last update 09/06/12 - 10,300 half cross stitches (Total stitching time: 71 hours and 40 minutes):
    2012_06090031-1.jpg

And here it is as of 21/06/12 - Total stitching time: 95 hours and 40 minutes:

YaY! I spy an eagle wing, at last!
Click here to view in full mode, as the pic here has been shrunk a little to fit in the thread :)
And click here to see a close up of the wing :D

    Cross Stitcher Magazine #217 – October 2009

Thank you very much. Just been into my junk room and routed through all my mags and found said mag :j so now I can stitch Beside the sea :j

On the subject of magazines, I do have rather a lot (hundreds and hundreds) and whilst I don't intend to get rid of my cross stitch mags without sorting out the charts I might like to stitch first, do you think I should just get rid of my good food/delicious /easy living mags etc even though there is a good chance I haven't read them...... I have no idea when I might if ever read them and they are just taking up space that could be better served for space for cross stitch mags. :rotfl: I also have a cat magazine that my OH buys for me every month and I don't feel I can get rid of those. I have lots of these also.
