  • Still catching up with posts!

I managed to cut out the material for my Jubilee cushion but didn't have chance to get out the sewing machine - maybe this weekend?

I picked up the Lizzie Kate "We're not gossiping" piece which I started before the cushion distracted me. I had used some DMC variations for the background on the W because I didn't have any of the recommended threads (WDW or DMC or Anchor) but I decided I didn't like the effect. So I unpicked it - not easy as I had to avoid the W stitches and have started the background again in the recommended colour. Here is my first version

And this is a link to the chart which shows what it will look like! I have done more of the wording as well as the "reverse stitching"

Thoughts are with you Soulie today.

Not too much appeals to me in WOXS. Didn't mind the the free gift. Thanks FE for the heads up re the green thread.

Love that LK design FOS. I agree with you that the other colour works better as the W stands out more. Looking forward to seeing update of version 2.

Didn't manage to post pic yesterday - but here it is now. Seems as though it has taken ages to do. Its not really my cup of tea but it will go down with the next lot of stuff to charity shop or school/church fair.

shall I save my sealed pot money for this ???

I had one of these bought for me as a present but the empty version as I already have a lot of DMC skeins. I chose it because I have it in the main living room and it looks like a piece of furniture not part of my stitching staxh.
I only use if for complete skeins. I do have lots of threads on bobbins in boxes but it isn't my favourite storage method as I won't wind thread myself and am not keen on the kinks it leaves.
When I'm working on a project I cut lengths of thread and put them onto a card with holes punched down both sides, add the thread number (and sometimes the symbol if it is a big project).
Then when the project is finished I store the cut lengths in Loran folders (I have 3 which will hold the full set of DMC). I'm not sure that these are still available however.
When I was following your link for the DMC box I spotted this which comes in both dark and light wood. Very nice

Hi all, lovely updates and posts, i've been reading just not posting. To my surprise the cream/tablets actually helped my finger and within a day or so, the swelling went down a bit. Bad news i had to stop using them as i came out in a rash all over my arms and legs, it was like extreme sunburn and i couldn't move my legs when i got out of bed. Thankfully it cleared up after a couple of days and i'm now back to normal, still can't bend my finger properly but i can stitch :j Not done much but i plan to get on with it this week :)

Quick question: anyone else getting a page doesn't exist on the image popup? had to use the bb code instead. For people that don't know its:

  • Soulie - thinking of you and DS today

Louise - love the Darth Vader and have downloaded the chart and a couple of others from the same site - I particularly like this one from The IT Crowd
  • Flat_Eric wrote: »
yes thats the one :T:T:T Its amazing :T:T:T
Did you enjoy stitching it ???

I had a feeling it was you!

ETA - it looks like its available from the stitchdirect.com website. Its available in chart format (£15.95/£19.14????) and kit format £56.87 ). I think it might be something I buy with my sealed pot money!

The magazine back issue is only £3- might be worth buying if you think you may want to stitch it in the future. Looks great

FOS - love the IT Crowd. Added to 'To Do List' for DS. Will print it off when he gets out of the way. :D

  • I enjoyed going through the magazine but there isn't a single design that has made my "must do" list - mind you I probably need to live to 300 to complete what I want to do anyway :rotfl:
Have loved reading all the other reviews of the magazine. Have added my comments to FE's

Firstly Soulie - hope all goes well tomorrow for you. Will be thinking of you. hugs xxxx

I'm glad Monday is out of the way - I'm full of cold and feeling sorry for myself. silly really. The arrival of WOXS has cheered me up and here are my views:

    Free Gift
This is sweet but I'm not quite sure I *get* the design. Is it meant to be a butterfly landing on a flower? I'm not sure whether I will stitch it or not yet.
I like this design and think it is a butterfly and a red clover flower. Would make a nice bookmark and could see myself stitching it for a gift

    Meet our guests/this month's panellists
I am tempted to join the panel. Is anyone else a panel member????
    Go for it!

    Margaret Sherry Cat
Whilst I love Margaret Sherry's work, on this occasion, I'm not too keen on the design. plus I have no artist friends and its not something I would want to stitch for myself. The snail is cute and I might stitch this on its own.
I agree - I love looking at MS's designs but don't enjoy stitching them (for the reasons that Louise has mentioned)

    Beautiful Blossom
    Not for me.
I love floral designs but not this one

    Advert - page 23
Love the cushion from Willow Fabrics!
    So do I

    Jungle Stories

Cute - but too many on "to stitch" list already.
Don't like the Design feature on the blue (photo book?) on page 29 but do like the heart aida and the lion with the green balloon. The elephant is cute too. Likewise Zebra?
Might stitch one of these for a new baby card or sampler. Like what they have done to create heart shaped bunting

    Down by the river

This is quite cool and the colours used are very effective but I feel something is missing from the design?
Agree - it's neither realistic nor impressionistic

    Say it with flowers article
    Not interested!
    Haven't read it yet

Subs extra / girl with kite
    Not interested in this.
    Me neither

    Idyllic escapes

    Not sure about.
    Not keen

    Forest friends
cute but not something I think I will stitch.
    Not for me

    Mel's sweet treats
I don't get this design ?? Very very odd.
Took me ages to work out what the bottom part of the design is supposed to be. Is it shells? Really don't like this new series.

    Love and Cherish

I do like these. They are sweet. One might come in handy for me to stitch for a wedding anniversary card I need to (make/buy) later this year.
My favourite designs in the magazine and have bookmarked them for future use if/when the right occasion arises

    Stitching style
will have to look more closely at how these are done. They look quite cool :j I also think I might have the aida mentioned or something similar :j
Couldn't be bothered cross stitching something like this - it would be so much quicker to use patterned fabric. Do like the coloured aida though

    Advert page 73, 77 and 89
    BORED of non stitchy adverts
I counted 8 pages of non stitchy full page adverts = far too many. I particularly detest the one on the back which has obviously been block booked. I don't like the fact that when a stitching magazine is face down I can't immediately identify it as such - I'm worried I might mistake it for a newspaper magazine or similar and throw it into the recycling:eek:

    Vision at sunset
    not for me.
    Nor me

    Summer BBQ
I might stitch the food motifs but not the letters.
    Not my sort of thing

    Furry Tales
    Cute
but not sure I will stitch.
    Agree

    Next month
LOVE the London design. That is definitely going to be a must do. Would be nice if they did designs for other major cities/places. Would love one of the Lake District.
Like the look of this but not sure I would stitch it

Not excited about the free gift - would rather have a kit. Floral fancy appeals but flowers not really my thing so doubt I will stitch.
I like the look of the floral tapemeasure - I find these little accessories a nice change from kits and do use a lot of them

Mimi the cat cute but stitching the sofa would drive me dotty.

    LAST PAGE
Octopus is cute and I think I might have to stitch this :T

Oh I meant to say, I was talking about my sealed pot the other day. Well I opened it on Saturday! a mere six months too early BUT have decided (I think) to save monies for six months (jan to june) to put towards holiday and after holiday until december for xmas. I banked £260.00 today :T

Well done - a great achievement

I didn't manage any stitching yesterday :( and none so far today. Trying to sort out threads for the free country companions hedgehog on the bus this morning wasn't my best idea :rotfl: I feel in a strange mood this evening and feel I need to do some stitching to right myself. Work was its usual Monday cheeriness and I got home to find out that someone who I don't even know has died (but I kind of know the people affected by it). Its made me sad and I even shed a tear. My job can be quite pressurized at times (I only work in an office as a typist/secretary) and it is at times like these when I get news like I heard this evening that work and time constraints that get imposed on you by customers/bosses and the like are really not important.

Anyhow sorry to warble on and be sad. I will feel better no doubt after I have snuck some stitching in and had a good nights sleep.

Don't think I've done too badly on this, two evenings and an afternoon of stitching.
