    Thanks FOS & Louise :)

My sister hasn't given a specific reason to not like it, she says she feels uncomfortable as it's not something she would choose, whatever that means. She also says it's unflattering and mumsy
Before I bought them I really did have a think about reasons they may not like it, i.e. too short, too low cut etc and I really didn't think they would find any! OK it might not be what they choose for themselves but it's not anything too outrageous!
Funny you should mention about her helping, I did ask what kind of thing they each would like and only got 'it's your decision'!!
But I think she's objecting to me going ahead and purchasing it without consulting her and this is her way of showing it! I suppose I'm hurt because I would wear anything she asked me to, it's only for a few hours after all :(

For info this is the dress :o

Flat Eric - no bobbins with 4 slots at the moment, but how lovely are these to wind your thread onto!

Oooh, I love it! I'll be your bridesmaid...:rotfl: Plus I LOVE Vegas. Can recommend a great restaurant if you're interested.

Seriously, it's your day, so she should wear what you choose. She should have given her opinion before if she wanted something particular. Weddings bring out the worst in people sometimes. Choose your battles. And don't be afraid to say " no, it's MY wedding".

OOOh any recommendations gratefully received, we need a nice restaurant to have the meal in after the wedding!

Haha it's true about the weddings bringing out the worst in people, and I really don't know why! I am being careful to pick my battles, have had run ins with mother about a couple of things and have compromised :A

This is the time I'm saying it's MY wedding :rotfl: Unfortunately so far, sister is not listening, it's still all about her. And always has been, she has always managed to get her own way!! Not this time, I am not backing down about this!

Oh well, we shall see what happens...

(sorry for the non stitchy topics everyone!)

PS: lovely updates catwoman, those are both coming along beautifully! I wish I'd brough my stitching to work, am in a real stitchy mood now!

Well, I certainly wouldn't describe it as 'mumsy'. I love the colour and the embellishment, the only reason I couldn't wear something like that would be because it's too short, but if your BM's have the legs for it then it's perfect.

Tbh if she was asked for her opinion and didn't give it then there's not much more you can do.

Let us know what happens, I hope you don't end up falling out :(

I think the model must be about 10 feet tall as it's not that short, on my normal sized BMs it comes to just above the knee!

Thanks all for sharing your opinions, I will keep you posted!

Just goes to show tall thin models aren't the most realistic to use :rotfl:

    Hi ladies.

Ailsb. A Good Marriage is coming along nicely.

Skoobie. Hope you sort things with your sister and I hope FIL to be is ok.

Catwoman. Nice progress on both the Angel and the Dragon.

Tiger is almost finished :T I have a few more stitches in dark brown and then I am down to the final green.

When you wash and iron a piece how do you do the ironing bit? Do you iron it on the back with a tea towel on top and no steam? I have never ironed a piece before and really don't want to mess it up :o
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:
  • catwoman - love both of your updates - you are making spectacular progress. I love it when you can see the image start to emerge on the fabric

skoobie - I agree with Louise - the dress is lovely and I can't see anything about it that would be objectionable even if it wasn't exactly what they would choose for themself.. It's a long time since I was a bridesmaid and my experience was somewhat mixed - some outfits I loved and some I didn't but they didn't detract from the enjoyment of the day. But then I don't have any sisters so am not well versed in sibling rivalries - when I was bridesmaid at my brother's wedding I'm not sure he even noticed what we were wearing :D

Some of those thread winders are lovely but I could not justify paying that sort of money on them. Kelmscott accessories are delightful and I do have one of their needle minders.

Shelly - this is what I do
Check that the threads and/or fabric won't run
Use mild detergent e.g. hand wash for silks and wools
Rinse lots of times in cold water
Roll the piece in a towel to remove a lot of water (don't wring it as you will create creases)
Put the stitching right side down on a very fluffy towel folded as many times as possible. This allows the stitches to stand proud of the fabric.
Press using a dry iron until any creases are removed. Don't think it applies to your tiger but be careful of any beads or metallic threads as these will not tolerate higher temperatures
Hang up the piece until completely dry - ideally at least overnight before framing

Looking forward to seeing the tiger completed

I joined the dmc club this morning. There are lots (must be hundreds) of free charts :j:j:j Well worth a visit :j

Hope everyone has a lovely stitchy saturday planned :T

I am still catching up with older posts even though I've been reading the most recent ones.

This site is wonderful. There is at least 1 project which I have stitched and framed (Poppy and Ladybird) and others which I either have in my stash or recognise as being kits in older DMC catalogues. What great value to provide these free of charge. And I haven't looked at all of the categories yet.

Thank you FE for adding to my stash of charts I want to stitch. Pity you couldn't provide a link to more stitchy time as well :D
