FOS & Chicky. Thanks for the ironing info, I have made notes
Should get Tiger done today, though really it should have been done yesterday but I dither soooooo much when stitching, it's ridiculous! I think I spend more time watching tv, resting my back and looking at the chart deciding which bit to stitch next than I do actually stitching.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

I tend to do that sometimes as well :rotfl:cross stitch cafe #90 UFO's 6 to finish in 2013, and loads of new kits to boot

I need a bit of help with what count size and linen size I need for my beer.
The instructions say I can work it on 40, 36, 32 and 28 ct
Which of these would be the biggest count when completed and which will be the smallest. The stitch size is 138w by 285h
I have tried to work out the size of linen by hunting for places that sell the chart and linen together, but some place only sell the chart and the only one I can find for the sizes is 32ct and that I need 18x 27 linen.
I am just wondering is that right? I have also tried to use a linen calculator and they have come up with 13x22 using 32 ct.
So I am confused what size to buy?cross stitch cafe #90 UFO's 6 to finish in 2013, and loads of new kits to boot

Catwoman - I use this calculator to help me http://www.123stitch.com/cgi-bin/fabric.pl
Allowing an extra 2 inches each side of the design and stitching over 2 squares it's calculating as follows:
40 count - 11 x 19
36 count - 12 x 20
32 count - 13 x 22
28 count - 14 x 25
Hope that helps. I know it sounds obvious but 28 count linen is the same as stitching on 14 count aida, 32 is the same as 16 count aida etcCross Stitch Cafe Member #59 :j

Nooooo it's too early for Maffs!
I'll try my best lol :rotfl:
138w by 285h is 9.8 x 20.3in on 14ct fabric (design area)
14ct aida = 28count evenweave/linen
18ct aida = 32 count
so 32 count linen would give you a design area of 7.6 x 15.8in (your calculation of 13 x 22in would give you plenty of fabric)
It will get smaller the higher the thread count, unless you stitch over 1 thread instead of two, which would change things

Hi catwoman,
Generally speaking the smaller the thread count, the larger the finished design, so 40ct will give the smallest and 28ct the largest.
To get the size for each fabric type, divide the design size by the stitch count, for for example if you stitched on 40ct linen over 2 threads there would be 20 stitches per inch so;
138/20 = 6.9inches
285/20 = 12.9inches
then add 4 inches to each for a border so I'd stitch on a piece of linen 11in x 17in
for the other thread counts the design sizes work out as follows:
36ct:
7.7in x 14.5in so stitch on 12in x 19in
32ct:
8.6in x 16.1in so stitch on 13in x 20in
28ct:
9.9in x 18.4in so stitch on 14in x 23in
Hope this makes senseCross Stitch Cafe Challenger No. 26 :hello:XStitch to do list:-- Birth Sampler -- Christmas Angel -- Mum's Xmas Stitch -- Christmas decs 3 & 4 -- Xmas Bird ---- Snowflake Sonata -- Be Jolly -- JE Unicorn -- Start HAED!!! --0 -

Morning all, just a flying visit to say thank you all for the messages. The service went well, and he would have liked the send off and music choice. As predicted my son handled it very well and supported me when I needed it.
Right got to run, hope you are all well.

Just having a quick catch up.
Loving the updates and pics. I started my new big project at the weekend so not much to show yet, but after the numerous colour changes in the 2 cats, I went for something which should be quicker to stitch and went for this:

Love this design (and lots of the others on the site by the same designer)0
