23rdspiral - love the heart and I can't see what you "should" have done differently

The birds clock is in the latest issue of Cross Stitch Crazy which doesn't hit the shops until 10th. I can send you a black and white scan to give you an idea of what it looks like if that helps.

Re the card for your friend - I don't think you should be influenced by how much the kit cost you. The bigger investment is your time and that's priceless

Thanks for the heads up on threads from Poundland etc = good idea for cards etc (though not heirloom pieces obviously). When I was looking through some older magazines during my tidying session at the weekend it was quite shocking to see how the prices of threads has rocketed. Almost as bad as petrol and utilities:eek: And just as essential for us stitchers

FlatEric - I agree that Happy Happy House would be fabulous as a complete alphabet. Perhaps we should email the magazine and suggest this?

Dorastar - I stitched a couple of squares for LoveQuilts as I think it is a wonderful idea. However I really don't like stitching on aida so I haven't done any more

Maria - many thanks for the email and really pleased to hear that your stitchy bug has returned

sweetcarer - appreciate it is very difficult for you and yours. Could you ask for some of your stitching stuff to be sent to you? And if you don't like the long stitch kit could you auction it and use the funds to buy some threads or whatever you need for the JE design?

b-e-g - hope you will still have room for stitchy stash :D Hope all goes well for your Mum

aneres - thanks for the update - it will be interesting to see it take shape

Ailsb - so pleased to hear better news. As you say Charlie is a good wait for a preemie which will help him. Must be very difficult for the parents but it sounds as though they are getting lots of support.

Re the threads from Hong Kong you can do a test on whether or not they are colour fast by washing a single skein and blotting it on white kitchen paper - if the colour runs then you wlll see dye transfer clearly on the white paper. I suggest choosing one of the red colours as for some reason red dye is more likely to run. It is worth checking as I have had 2 pieces spoiled by red dye running - the threads were hand dyed so I didn't wash the pieces - the running was done by the steam iron . I managed to get out most of the run on one piece and have it on display high up above a wall so no one can see it up close and personal. The other piece is a panel on a stitched bag and I live with it as a reminder not to make the same mistake again.

    Here are the designs I mentioned I liked from the Hearts & roses magazine;

    th_DSC00747.jpg Home sweet home

    th_DSC00750.jpg Patchwork cushion sampler

    th_DSC00755.jpg Hand bags!

    th_DSC00754.jpg Time for tea sampler

Anyone needs a ;) just let me know!

I've not been around for a while (marathon training and then flu after the marathon!) so I'm working my way through.

I've done that patchwork cushion sampler - it's gorgeous!

I work near one of those shops and am happy to post a pack at cost to anyone. PM if so, I guess they'd cost c. £1.50 with the threads and stamp price.

Thanks for pointing us in the right direction 23rd for our threads. I will have to have a look in our local store next week. We used to have a market many years ago now where you could buy cheap threads but sadly it has disappeared now. I do have quite a few threads for cards etc that I can usually find something to use. I once did a picture with pots of pansies and I just used whatever colours I had for the pansies but I bought the terracotta shades for the pots so that they had the right effect. The pansies picture was actually for the same friend who got the tulips the other week.
    morning all

FOS - You can always find somewhere for your stitchy stuff. :D Actually when I was talking about sorting mags last week - OH and DS suggested that I digitized the charts from the mags and got rid/sold the actual mags. Still pondering this one as I think I still like to have hold of the charts in my hands. Thanks for comments for Mum - she was at hospital last Friday when it was decided she had to have a 'procedure' done on both eyes this week but they didn't have time to do the pre-op tests then so she has to go back this afternoon and then back in on Thursday for op. She is coming up for 85 and has no sight now and she gets very anxious when having medical appointments at the best of times so I will have my work cut out this afternoon trying to keep her calm while they take her blood pressure.

Ailsb - good news re Charlie. Hope he gets stronger each day.

Right I'm off now to get ready for hospital.

Hi all - got a fair bit to catch up on, I was away offroading with hubby and DS2 for the weekend up in Inverness, great fun and a lot of laughs to be had with the group. :D No stitching at all been done since last Wed but thems the breaks lol :rotfl:

Flat_Eric - I hate when threads are merged or deleted with no notification, I think it's really rude.
Have you got the material sorted onto your frame since you posted? Sounds like you just need to fiddle a bit. I find putting the two side clips on first, adjusting the straightness then fitting the top and bottom ones helps a lot. Roll the excess fabric up at the sides and secure it in place so it's not hanginf and getting in the way of your stitching.
I notice mags has said she uses some spare fabric under the clips as well, that's a good tip, I tend to just use a sheet of paper which works just as well. Your frame is still new though so that might not be as much of a problem for you at the moment.

Ps - I have been good and haven't bought any stitchy stuff this month :D

fos - LOVE that backing fabric!! Could it be any more perfect!!:j

Sweetcarer - Hope hubby finds a job soon, is he having any luck even getting interviews? It's so difficult for job hunters right now. :(

Mags - good luck with the next John Clayton, I don;t think any of us will blame you if you want to have a moan about the colours :rotfl:

aneres - that looks great, really cheery look forward to seeing it as a hanging :T

23rd - Lovely card - if there's any stitches in the wrong place I certainly can't spot them :)

Ailsb - Good to hear little Charlie is getting stronger :)

Shelly - looks like you figured the RM sampler before me lol, I wasn't too sure if that was the one :o

Would love to get back onto Circe tonight but I have to go to a meeting, I am seriously thinking of crying off and having a lovely night in the house but I better not :o Ah well there's always Thursday night....

I seem to remember being told that putting the plastic pieces into hot water can tighten them up but wouldn't want to recommend this without checking with the makers

Might have to test this out, sounds good if it works :)

Hope everyone had a good bank holiday weekend. :j It was lovely up until yesterday when it rained all afternoon, glad I went to work then and missed the downpour.

Well I have started to read back over the last couple of pages that I have missed. All the projects look lovely.
I see Blossom is settling in very well and exploring everywhere.

I purchased two magazines today cross stitch collection and cross stitch gold.
I only went to buy cross stitch gold as "sleeping beauty " is in it and I noticed that there was a beautiful elephants in cross stitch collection :o so I had to have them both.
There are loads of The diamond jubilee charts and gardening charts in there to do, some of them are not my cup of tea.

The cross stitch gold on the other hand. They have some lovely geishas charts, some lovely fantasy charts from Joan Elloitt - small dragons and unicorns. I mustnt forget the sleeping beauty chart as well.
