I started a new project this evening :j (well I have managed 7 whole stitches and 7 half stitches !)

I am using that frame Louise was recommending (this one) but the material seems far too big and despite unclipping and reclipping on several occasions, the material still looks wonky in the frame and there is lots of excess material?

The material also doesn't seem to go as taught as the other design I was stitching in this frame (the winnie the pooh and piglet design that featured on the front of the world of cross stitch mag)

do I just need to faff a bit more with the material or would i be better off with a different frame ??? I see there is a square version of this frame but I can't see this would be any better and I don't really want to be spending any money.... (are you following me on my no spend / save money challenge ?? :rotfl:)

anyone watch BGT ??? views ???

    Morning,

    Love the Vintage design Eric.

I've just started using a floor frame and I'm really struggling with it but determined to get used to it. I would try and get the material right.

    Don't watch BGT.

    Happy bank holiday stitching everyone.

I use the non-lap version of that R+R frame and here's my tips for what they're worth...

If you've got lots of excess fabric I found it easiest to roll it up to the edge of the frame (right side in to protect against dirt) and then put two pieces of sticky tape around the roll one at the top and one at the bottom. try to make sure the tape goes from the front of the frame right around the fabric and sticks to the back of the frame. This works well for large pieces, where you're not moving the fabric too often in the frame but could well get frustrating if you have to move it a lot.

Over time, the plastic half-shell pieces that go over the frame to clip the fabric will lose a bit of their springiness. Also, some fabrics are "grippier" ('zat a word?!) than others so slip less. I use a narrow length of scrap adia and put it over the WIP on the frame where I'm going to clip it - so there is at least a double thickness of fabric for the clip to sit on.

I'm sure Louise will be on with help too, as she uses the same version as you :T

Hello everyone! Thought I'd update you on Blossom's news. I love this pic I took of her yesterday. She looks properly chilled out! She seems to like having her photo taken and even the flash doesn't bother her.

    th_DSCF7136.jpg

Yesterday we had an exciting day. First some drama at the vets. We went there to get some advice and ask about when she'll need more injections. There was a young girl there with her parents and she collapsed on the floor. Poor girl. She was only about 10. They called an ambulance for her, so hopefully she's been checked out and is fine now.
Then we thought we would have a look through the windows to the church cellar where we think Blossom might have come from. We spotted a little black kitten down there!
I won't go into all the details as such a lot went on, but the priest there doesn't give a damn about the kitten, so we called the Cat's protection league (closed) and RSPCA (wouldn't help). Eventually we thought we'd look online to see of there was any local cat rescue people that would help us. We got hold of a lovely woman who came out later that day and we have spotted Blossom's mum bringing some food home for the kitten. She was wary at first, but after a while she came over to see us. We gave her some food and she ate that. She let us fuss her and she's definitely not a feral cat. I've been back this morning to give her some more food and water. She loves being stroked and we're hoping that she'll bring the kitten up (or it ventures up on it's own). I saw the kitten again this morning, so I know it's ok. Can't believe the horrible attitude of that priest. He even denied to the rescue lady that he knew there was a cat down there-despite DH putting a note through his door in the week. What a nasty man!
Anyway, here's a couple of pics of Blossom's mum. We're really hoping to rescue both her and the kitten and get them nice new homes where they're safe.

Decided to start on my Diamond Jubilee cushion so that I finish it somewhere near the appropriate time and not 12 years late like my Millennium Sampler:eek:

I was also inspired to start it by finding what I think is the ideal fabric for the cushion border and back at a local quilting store. Here is a photo of my progress to date and the backing fabric

I'm stitching it on cream Ariosa evenweave as recommended in the magazine (Cross Stitcher) but am using #5 perle thread instead of the 4 strands of stranded. I could be tempted to buy the matching Emma Bridgewater mug as well though it is pricey.
