  • FlatEric - I would "go with the flow" and if your brother's current favourite thing is beer, buy him some beer or a voucher for somewhere they sell alcohol. The ideas of the bottle opener or beer glass etc are great ways to make it more a gift. I understand where you are coming from re the premium bonds but although it isn't very likely (I've read Martin's piece about the odds of winning), it is possible that one of these bonds could be a winner and how would you feel about handing over the winnings (to be spent on beer going by what you have said in your post)?

Sweetcarer - love your sampler and you are making great progress especially as you finished Little Boy Blue AND stitched a birth sampler this week. Are you setting up in competition with Louise for the speediest stitcher? :D

MrsMoneypenny - what you are planning with the beads sounds like it will be very effective; looking forward to seeing it

Louise - welcome back. What terrible news about the baby shoes going missing. Have you contacted Royal Mail to ask for them to trace the package?
I know what you mean about Anchor/DMC conversions - they can be very hit and miss as to whether or not they work

Debtdalek - this site is all about resolutions and new beginnings so it is never too late for a "new year" resolution. Anyway "year" has various meanings - calendar year, tax year, Chinese year, Jewish year etc and companies have their own years usually based on when they set up trading so you can start your year whenever you like :)

Blue eyed girl - it so frustrating to have to unpick stitching and it always seems to take much longer than the original did

As I hoped I managed some more on my Millennium sampler yesterday evening (The Voice is an ideal programme for stitchers as you don't have to look at the screen) so may manage to finish it tonight - watch this space

Have a happy stitchy Sunday everyone

flat eric, sorry to ear about your cat scratching you hope its ok ow and not too sore and puss cat is your friend again

stitched some on fred last night, he now has a head and legs
Hello. Yes me and mog are friends again. Its hard to ever get cross with him. In the early hours the other day, he came into our bedroom and was meowing his head off! (I must say he is a cat that rarely meows) So I got up to discover he was soaking wet so got a towel and dried him off except he kept fidgeting! Anyhow then I realised he had brought a mouse in only to lose him in the bedroom  thankfully he found him again but then the cherry on the top was him crunching the mouse under the dining table !

Hi thanks for the ideas everyone. I have opted so far for a cd from the year he was born which was just a few quid and I suspect I shall wrap that up with twenty one pounds and a few 21 themed scratch cards if I can find some. I would like to get a tankard or something but think my dad will do that and don't want to step on his toes by doing something similar.

Yes I like the idea of something to do with beer. off to investigate....
  • Louise - sorry to hear that lovely picture has gone missing. I sent a card that I spent hours making to my cousin in February and it never arrived :( It is so frustrating, but yours was so much more special than that so I would be fuming. Can you lodge a claim at the post office? I know it will never make up for the loss of time, but maybe you could get the cost back.

Not much stitching done here. I was at the dentist on Thursday, thinking I was booked in for the fillings I need doing, to be told I was only booked for a check up  (I had a check up a month ago where he said I needed 2 fillings and booked them for me, but I was ill so I rebooked) so he wouldn't do my fillings, I have to wait till Wedsnesday. But I was in no pain when I went in, he proddled the tooth, and I have had really bad toothache since :(.

Well, I have my op date through, so I will be in from this Friday for a minimum of 3 nights, so I am taking a new kit and some trashy mags to keep me entertained.

Still plodding on with kipper, hoping to do some now as the kids are trashing their bedrooms and DH is shopping, but I came on here.... lol

Loving all the WIP I love seeing them, they guilt me in to doing some more stitching :rotfl:.

    Have a lovely Day everyone

Anyhow, browsing sew and so (as you do :D) and seen this sewing box kit but don't like the colours of the sewing box. how easy do you think it would be to change this and what colours would you go for?

I think that's really cute. The colours would depend on where it was going but I think it would be easiest to change the box to shades of oink, that way the purpe inside could stay the same. (Or I would have purple outside and a pink inner lid iyswim)

I haven't - mainly because with all the faff preparing to go on hols, I don't know where the receipt is for it :(

Another piece of my stitching has gone to waste as well - the beautiful Rennie Mackintosh wedding sampler I made for my brothers wedding last Feb is now no use - they split up the night of our dad's funeral, can't see them sorting it out now, my brother is now planning to move away for a new job :(

Quick update on my medieval lady - Didn't do much during the week but got a good 4-5 hours done lat night which has brought her along nicely, she is very easy to stitch, even on the evenweave.

Needwillpower - if you need any help with Flickr drop me a PM.

    Louise - she's lovely :)

I have ordered my set of DMC threads (I went with Wendy at Enchanted Needle in the end, because hers come on the smaller bobbins that match the storage I already have. The other ones came on the supersized bobbins which wouldn't have fitted my boxes). I am speechlessly excited by the thought of a full set of threads and may not be able to bring myself to actually use them. I may just sit and stroke them...:o

Mum and Dad are paying for some of it as a birthday present so that's helped, and I have a couple of market research panels coming up which will also pay for some.

Expect a photo when they do get here!

(I have also finished the last page of Tenby at last. Just the backstitching of that page to do, wash it and get it framed.)

Absolutely no stitching managed today. :(:(:( Got too engrossed in the housework ?! and the London Marathon. Wow. when the bbc coverage ended, I had it on the red button and it was humbling watching all those people crossing the finish line.

Update re brother's birthday present. as already mentioned, have opted for cd from year he was born - also ordered a travel book on europe because he has mentioned that when he finishes uni, he would like to go traveling. and at over 1000 pages, it will sure give him something to browse in anticipation. I have decided against the premium bonds idea because to be honest that is naff and instead I shall try to save a few quid here and there so that perhaps when he does his europe trip, I can contribute towards his ticket.

So Homeland and Desperate Housewives on the box tonight :j can't wait (even though it means monday is even closed :( )

Hope everyone has had a lovely weekend.

it makes me cry watching the effort some of the runners and the wheelchair users going over the line put in, as you say it really is so humbling.

Can't believe I've managed to post a pic.

My update on Happy House, I've had to alter some of the colours as I didn't want to buy new thread but I think it looks ok.
