  • Some dyes aren't colourfast and red dyes are apparently the most likely to run. Does the kit state what brand of thread is being used? If it isn't DMC, Anchor or Madeira and the recommendation is to wash the threads then I would do it. I have had a couple of unfortunate incidents where overdyed threads (which aren't colourfast and say so on the label) have run when I have steam pressed the finished stitching.

Never heard of Quality Needlework before but always useful to have another recommended online retailer :D

Thanks. It doesn't say brand of thread, just says to wash the red and dark blue threads under cold water then dry before use so will air on the side of caution!! They've got some lovely kits on their site and postage is only £1 :)

Can highly recommend Quality Needlework website, ordered yesterday morning and my Noah's Ark kit has landed on the doorstep this morning!! Can I ask please Victoriajj did you wash the red and dark blue threads before stitching as suggested?? never heard of that before!!

no that's far too much faff for me :rotfl:, I'm nearly up to the bit on the top and nothings run or rubbed off yet
  • Good morning everyone

    The Dragon
    - how frustrating to have to start again and why does unpicking always seem to take much longer than the original stitching?
Though I admire you for being able to crochet. I have tried and can do most types of craft than involve needles but crochet defeated me in spite of my mum's best efforts. I know crochet is supposed to have holes but mine always had more holes than anything else :rotfl:

23rdSpiral Thank you so much for sharing your experience at the Show - it was almost as good as being there (and far less expensive for me :D)
I loved the shot of the stalls - I love the feeling of anticipation when I first enter a show wondering what new goodies I am going to see. I am so jealous of your workshop with Jan Constantine. I have liked her work for a long time but her recent designs really hit a chord with me.

Keiss 21 - love those quilts but the thought of all those knots makes me feel quite weak. Fabulous job and you will be so good at it because you love sewing. When I bought a new machine a couple of years ago although I did a lot of online research because it was a major purchase I actually bought it from our local sewing machine job because the owner spent lots of time showing me the various features and I often pop in to ask advice etc. You can't beat human contact when buying things like sewing machines.

augustsmummy - sorry to hear about the chicken pox outbreak; it seems very widespread this year. Hope it doesn't interfere with your op.

Maria - I'm sure you've done the right thing - nothing worse than stitching something you're not enjoying. What are you going to do instead?

Skoobie - seed beads instead of french knots look great

Louise - hope you get the evenweave - can't bear the thought of you missing valuable stitching time :) I think that the biggest difference between stitchers and non stitchers (or folk who don't have a similar absorbing hobby) is that we are almost never bored. I get bored in traffic jams because I can't stitch or read...

tellmeitsfriday - thanks for the link to the free software - haven't tried it yet but looks fun

Ailsb - Love the African Lady and the dragon is really cute

Dorastar - would love to see pic of your MP Welsh Chapel. He won Designer of the Year again at the Origin Craft awards so is obviously very popular.

:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:
