Ooh I have that book! Got it free when subscribed to Popular Patchworking at Festival of Quilts last year. Also managed to get a box of Madeira metallic threads as well as a few extra magazines.....pretty good deal I think! :) Still haven't made anything from it yet...did you get the ruler they suggest getting?

Thanks for the link about the DMC threads...a good idea,, but have loads of DMC threads already, so would have quite a lot of repeats.

Off to finish my crazy patch cushion cover...just need to square it up, sew it to the back then add some binding....not much then!!

One day I will get some cross-stitching done!

I should probably reply to this on The Sewing Room thread so apologies to CS Cafe members who aren't at all interested in patchwork and quilting. :)

The book contains variations on the original sampler quilt and looks lovely (I've seen it at a shop but can't justify buying it when I have the basic design anyway).

I bought the 2 rulers which they originally recommended and found them to be a big help. However I think the combined ruler by Creative Grids would be even better.

I have never made it to the Festival of Quilts though I would love to go "one day".

Woo hoo, finished Dear Santa :)

    photo-4.jpg

Needs washing and pressing and probably won't do that until I get it framed.

Yay, on to the next project!

Mags_cat - those complete sets seem like a good deal, especially if they are already on bobbins! I don't use them myself, prefer to keep them in skeins, but if I did I'd be very tempted! I've not used either site though although I have heard of the Enchanted Needle.

Off to work on Mum's birthday card and her blackwork cats. After that I might do Joan Elliots unicorn. I had a closer look at the design and agree with whoever mentioned the backstitch! I think I'm going to have to alter it and smooth out the lines. I don't understand why there are smooth lines in the mane but not the outline of the unicorn's body! I'm also still looking for my long lost pegasus design, it's got to be at my parent's house somewhere!

Oh and flowerofscotland, package received ;) sorry I didn't let you know sooner!

This is fabulous and has definitely been escalated on my to do list - in fact yesterday I oversewed the fabric I have chosen and pulled out the DMC needed so am all ready to go.....

Did you use 2 or 3 strands ? The pattern says 3 for the xs and 1 for the bs. No wonder the bs took you a while - it's most of the design! I quite enjoy stitching lettering and will probably start at the top of the design.

Thanks for letting me know about the safe arrival of the butterfly kit - I am of course expecting to see photos of it completed soon :D

i find the titanic programmes facinating but so sad, i really cant imagine people acting like that today queuing and being so stiff upper lip in such a desperately dangerous situation also fiind it heartbreaking how badly the lower class passengers were treated
my titanic now has a blue band along the front deck with portholes

  • Morning everyone :)

Well back to School for DD and she just did not want to go. I feel really bad for making her, I know she has to go and I wouldn't keep her off, but I feel like the worst mum in the world :(

Have taken Catwoman's advice - thank you - and bought the Jane Greenoff CD for designing my own charts. DD is really into Tatty Teddy and I missed out on a couple on Ebay last night, so thought I would just do my own. Hopefully that will cheer her up a bit.

I'm also going to buy myself a thread box. Seen some on Ebay really cheap,, so I'm off to buy myself one and cheer myself up a bit! Hope everyone well :)

  • Has anyone tried Venus Thread before. My mediveal charts has given me the choice of Venus threads or DMC. I dont have a lot a money now this month and I am itching to start it, but I havent got ny thread yet

If anyone has used Venus threads before what does everyone think of them ? Are they better or the same as DMC threads?
They seem to be cheaper than DMC, just wondered what people thoughts were before I got any.

I took the plunge this morning and bought a chart from Heaven and Earth. Its called Air. Have downloaded it. Just have to print it out. Has lots of pages, 70 pages. Might have to get more ink. I have to finish my current project first though, maybe lol.

    Thanks f_o_s :) I used 3 strands on 25ct, I find the coverage rubbish if I only use 2.

Am stitching mum's card (Assisi design from WOXS) on 25ct as thats the only evenweave I had and am using 3 strands for that as well.

I need to invest in some 28ct evenweave I think. I am looking at 28ct brittany lugana as I like the feel of the 25ct lugana and I can 'sew' it, i.e keep my hand on top of the fabric and put the needle through the fabric rather than stabbing down and then up. It harder to do with aida as it's stiffened.

Does anyone have any other recommendations/considerations for evenweave types? I did a bit of research and there didn't seem to be much difference between the types other than the fibre blends.

Catwoman - I'm afraid I haven't heard of venus threads either.

    Hi
Thanks *Louise* I'm ok. Just been busy, only just got round to catching up. Although I love this group and looking at the work it's just hit home to me (and at least one other member) just how much of a community feel we've lost.
(sorry had to wait a while until I could post what I wanted to say politly).

In the good ole days (how old do I sound) we really rallied around, shared stories and got to know each other (as much as you can on the internet).

    I have no problems with
;);) between friends is a lovey thing to do. And personally I am very grateful :D However (in my eyes) people have been taking this too far. We have seen an increasing number of newbies joining us just to get what they want (be it for us to do the internet searching for them, send them what they want etc) then leaving without so much as a thank you which REALLY gets my back up (but I have no control over). I have a feeling we've lost a few of our regular posters because of this.

Just need to remind people about copyright laws as well as the 'rules' of MSE so PLEASE be careful if you do choose to ;);) as you never know when a newbie will be a 'spy' and we don't want to loose this group or land people with fines. That's not to say never do but (I personally) know the people who use this group as a community and those who are here purly for what they can get.

That being said I love meeting newbies but if you don't get instant replies from people for your requests perhaps think about how you have worded your request in the first place. It is also possible people don't know the answer, havn't had time to reply or have missed your post so getting stroppy in a repeat post because no one has answered you isn't really in the spirit of things.

Sorry for the :mad: I don't do it often.

Anyways in stitchy news I have done a fair bit of princess palace and will try to post an update tonight.

Augustmummy hope your little one gets over the pox without too much itchy scratchyness.

Back to nursery school for DS1 this afternoon too. He's been playing with his lego this morning while DS2 naps and just brought me over his fireman asking what the cutter was for in his hands. I explained it was for car crashes etc...... "no mummy, it's for cutting pizza with like you do" :rotfl::rotfl:

Just to make you all and me feel REALLY old - it's DS1's 1st birthday tomorrow :eek:

Right that's my computer time over with as he's just woken up. Will try to pop back later on once they've gone to bed with my updates.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:
