Hi all, just a quick update on 'White Lightning'.

This is what it looked like on the last update (08/01/12 - 16 hours and 50 mins worth of stitching):

    2012_01080018-1-1-1.jpg

And here it is as of 19/03/12 (35 hours and 30 minutes worth of stitching):

I hadn't thought I'd done much in this latest update until I looked over the photos I had taken and saw that it really was taking shape.
I did make a tiny mistake but it's not noticeable.
However, I didn't enjoy this latest session, so I have decided to rotate pieces again, though I haven't decided what to rotate to lol
Soulie this looks amazing and you have made a lot of progress. Hope you enjoy your next project in the rotation more than this one :)

    Right here we go...

    The Passion of Dance

Bought and started in April 2008. I had the face and a small section of the chest done

Picked it up again last Thursday and finished it today:

Stunning! Please don't say she is just going into your box - she deserves to be on display :)

I do like the sound of sparkly aida. will see what I have in my stash....

If I want to stitch on 14 aida instead of the 16 count it allows for, how much material do I need? It helpfully tells you half the measurements.....

Using the Yarntree calculator which was link helpfully posted a few days ago the stitched area is 35/8 inches high by 23/4 inches wide on 16 count plus of course the allowance all round

Sparkly aida would be lovely for a birthday card - could be a light shade with lurex if you don't fancy a black background
  • My ciopy was waiting for me when I got home as I expected from having seen your comments earlier

There is very little in this issue which appeals to me and nothing has made it to my "must do" list (which is far too long anyway)

My favourite designs were the biscournu charts in the free booklet though I don't care for the colour choices.

I like the Unicorn though I wouldn't stitch it for myself and love the fabric though I have mentioned lots of times on here that I am a big fan of Polstitches fabric and IMHO the design would lose a lot of impact if stitched on a plain fabric.

Like Louise I loved the sewing box but at that price it would have to be a serious birthday / Christmas present especially as I don't think it is very big I think for a similar money I would prefer the DMC floss storage chest I've sold a few things at auction this month so if my current items reach reasonable prices perhaps I can justify (on the basis that it will help me to keep my threads stash tidy :D)

Hugs and good wishes to Louise and Skoobie

wooo what a catch up. <<hugs>> *Louise* your sister sounds as bad as mine. But then she's golden girl cause she lives in same town as mum/ dad still not hundreds of miles away like me.

only managed a small bit of cut thro palace not really worth a photograph yet.

Off on holiday Monday so need to get a small kit ready to take (yea like I'll get the time anyway but just incase). whether DH will be coming with me or not is another thing entirly.

He did his "i'll be a bit later home tonight" thing last night by txt at 7pm then ignored all messages sent to him until he rolled in at 1am.
I've told him I'm taking the kids on my own. AM FURIOUS. Just can't afford to leave him at the moment - he's made sure of that racking up debts that are all in my name.
to top it off it's my birthday tomorrow and he's not planned anything, not bothered to arrange a babysitter so we can go out and my present.........a £10 watch that I chose. WOOP!!
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

African Horizon - I've never stitched a large piece on red before, it looks great. It's £25 in the catalogue but I will shop around.
Edit to add: Don't think I will beat that price as it's just been released...
Ooooh, i like it, so simple but very effective, might have to to that one myself :)

I've just bought an All-in-One printer so if anyone would like a ;) of Czar pm me, well i have test if the scanner works don't I :D :rotfl:

One thing that puzzled me was one of the letters on page 17, unless I am reading it wrong? It says she stitched it for her godson JJ, then later goes on to say she will be doing a birth sampler next as she is expecting again, and that JJ will have a sister? Must be a typo!

Next issue looks good too. I had wanted to buy that Diamond Jubilee chart, however, it is in the next issue for lots of £££ saved there! And I like the look of the close up flowers, and of course one of my favourites is the free gift (AOY).

PS. I agree Louise, it doesn't seem all that long ago since we reviewed the last issue!

I hadn't read the letters but had to look at what Soulie was referring to. Agree it isn't very clear. If it's not a typo then it could be read as the stitcher is pregnant AND her godson will have a sister in May (2 different events?)

Looking again at the magazine I think next month's will have far more of interest to me. I like the Diamond Jubilee chart although I think I will stick with the Emma Bridgewater cushion from Cross Stitcher instead. I like the look of the teatime sampler and also the floral cards and the butterfly cushion. The AOY design is also really cute and I really like the way the card mount reflects the sunflowers in the design. Perhaps in 4 weeks time I will be able to add something else to my to do list :D No doubt this will come round really weekly again - can't believe we are already 1/4 though 2012

think 2nd 'she' refers to JJ's mummy. so no typo just badly written.

saw a gorgeous picture i think by lavender and lace called celtic lady its a christmas style design. thats top of my wish list
hope all are well and enjoy a stitchy weekend

What great news that you have found a local stitching shop Although I buy a lot online there is nothing to beat seeing stitched examples and being helped by someone who loves and understands stitching.

I think it is probably Celtic Christmas by Lavender & Lace that has caught your eye. It's a fabulous design. I did it and left out the wording Noel so that I can keep it on display throughout winter. I have stitched Spring (now on display), Summer and Autumn in the same range and rotate them. Christmas is DH's favourite which is why I haven;t done Winter (although I love it) as he wouldn't want me to take down the Christmas one. Although these are large designs I dind them quite easy to stitch - all whole cross stitch, very little bs and hardly any confetti stitches. The main challenge for me is always the beading at the end. Good luck with stitching this - keep us updated with your progress and I know you will think it worthwhile when finished:)

Umm....she waaaaass going in..but I have got some extra money and have decided to get 3 pieces of work framed, so the ballerina, candlelight and one 'old' piece will be going to get done next week.

I think I will probably give the ballerina to my neice as part of her birthday.

I woudl have bought that in a heartbeat if it was able to store bobbins :( I woudl have to have 2 lots of storage for ages until I used up all my bobbins, and I don't think skeins would stay too tidy once I started using them.

I would possibly use the box for my 'spare' threads which are stored on bags until I need them, but space would then be an issue.

Oh look...I just talked myself into saving £80:money::rotfl:
