Maria well done! It's a really good week for finishing, so many people have finished something!
Pap... Mine are in a plastic storage caddy, but there's only a handful that aren't framed or given away (remember I'm fairly new to this, so don't have many... 2nd stitching anniversary coming up I think!)
As a heritage conservator I really have to recommend plastic storage over cardboard, as cardboard gives off decaying fumes. Even a pound land plastic tub is better than cardboard (that's what I use!). But do allow for some air movement around things too. Acid free tissue would be nice, esp for heirloom pieces. I might have to de-centralize some damaged sheets from work!
I'm back to work today. Yuck! Really not feeling in the mood

Morning ladies.
Ruth. Love the pillow, it's really nice.
Louise. Well done on your ebay bargain! I don't really need anymore kits but I go on daily just incase there's a bargain price kit I have to have
23rd. Cute squirrels!
beg. Look forward to seeing the framed Tulip Fields.
Maria. Look forward to seeing Thomas too.
pap. Good progress. In answer to your storage question, my finished pieces are rolled around each other and have an A4 plastic sleeve over each end (the kind you put paper into to go in a folder) which is stored in a cupboard on a shelf of it's own so they don't get squashed.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
I hope everyone had a good valentines day yesterday
23rd I love it :T
wow louise what are you going to do with all those finished projects ?
I have a habit of buying new cross stitch kits and not starting them. Or some of them I start then I get bored and not finish them lol
Since I have found this thread I only have two on the go at the moment and I WILL finish these.cross stitch cafe #90 UFO's 6 to finish in 2013, and loads of new kits to boot

That's me - I do that.
I have lots of unstarted ones. I should sell them, but I am too lazy :$0 -
23rd - I was going to suggest taking the glass out. I think I'd have a go at cutting a piece of card slightly smaller than the frame and try that way. At least if that doesn't work you havent' cut the fabric.
I've decided that I am going to stitch the patchwork horse and teddy for my Nephews baby. Have changed the pink threads to red ones and it should be okay whether they have a boy or girl. Will leave the border until we know the sex.
Here's the picture of what I'm aiming at.

:j yay i think it worked! i'm so pleased the framing looks ok... i did as Aslib suggested and mocked it up with some cardboard and double sided tape... will have to remember to do it properly some time. woot for charity shops! i'm so chuffed the frame looks good and suitable, i'd no idea what i was looking for other than 'kitch' and traditional!
that sampler looks very cute Aslib, i'm sure they'll love it!
25p! wow louise that's a bargain!
i have my fingers crossed for you August Mummy.
:j yay for finishing Tulip Fields BEG... that was quick! i'm looking forward to the photo
This looks great - your photo looks as though it is one from a magazine. Well done you for persevering - it was worth it0 -

Question time... How do you store your completed projects that haven't been framed? I have mine in a pile in a drawer but I am sure that isn't doing them any good. Should they be wrapped in acid free tissue paper or something?
Latest project is ooking good
As to how projects "should" be stored (as opposed to what I actually do) I think the most important things are to store finished pieces away from sunlight, damp and moths - all of which will wreak havoc on our handiwork. Yes acid free tissue paper is ideal but unless you are talking about storing things for years a drawer will be fine in my experience. Oh and avoid creases in the stitched parts - rolling is less likely to damage the stitching.0 -
Umm *ahem*:o....my smaller pieces are ironed and laid out flat on top of each other in a big cardboard box and stored in a cupboard. My large pieces are rolled round a large empty wrapping paper tube (a sturdy one) one at a time and then I have a towel wrapped round them to keep them clean.
I have over 100 pieces of finished stitching stored via these two methods..... some of them are fairly large pieces of work. The earliest dates back to 2002
:o:o On the positive side, when i last checked the 'time capsule' box, they were all still pristine lol
.
Wow - that is impressive output. Do you have any plans for these stitched pieces? I've got quite a few but nothing like 100. A small number of them are large pieces and the challenge is the cost of proper framing (typically around £50-£60) plus where to hang them. I was asked if I had an enormous house to display all my stitchings - I don't so I don't have any spare space. Adding a big picture would mean retiring something and storing framed stitchings is much more difficult.0 -
Thank you, yes it does kinda look like that. I will take a pic tomorrow when there is better light to see what you think. But mine defo looks more 'grey' than 'brown'.
Bad me! By the time I remembered to go take a photo, it was already too dark LOL
Anyways, I went to go take a photo just now, while it was nice and sunny, and I can definitely tell that it is more brown than grey. So obviously the natural light helped, whereas before it was night night time and it looked more grey than brown! So that problem is solved.
Anyways, I'm off to (naughtily) chart a little eagle that I've found, and make a start on stitching it, so I can get it up to Leeds in time for my brother's birthday. So my Mum can cut it down to the right size for the pokey things my Step-Dad made for my brother's grave (like little holder things where you can put cards in them? Kinda hard to describe lol).
