If it's a new system I would go along with closed and do the Factory Restore, make sure that System Restore was running and then to install all of the relevant updates.

I would also make a Recovery Disc in the case of hard drive failure. Though I don't know if the system makes a provision for that(Don't know much about that brand). But I could give you instructions if necessary.

Just wondering if the Avast antivirus programme you thought was legitimate was in fact fake, there was a copycat fake version of Avast causing problems a while ago.

If the Avast programme was indeed a spoof then you may have no antivirus on your system, Avast itself is very good so don't let the fake spoof version put you off using it, I use Avira myself, both versions can be downloaded for free (free versions) at filehippo.com

If you open Malwarebytes you will find the log file by clicking on the logs tab at the top, open the the most recently dated one and copy & paste the log file in your next message.

Thanks to all you fabulous people, the laptop is up and running fine :j
All traces of avast have been removed, the first malware programme is removed and I have installed Norton. I know its not free but I like it and I understand it and its on offer in Argos. I updated the Norton, scanned it all - It found 11 risks?? They were all fixed and everything seems to be working ok ( am trying to type that last bit with my fingers crossed ).
My son has had a very serious talking too about downloading stuff and he is so scared he is checking EVERYTHING now - which is driving us mad but its infinitely better then what happened yesterday.So again my huge enormous Thanks to you all and huge great big cyber hugs too. xxx

Norton is fine. Though I'm sure that you overspent.

If you don't have Recovery discs, you should back up the key and other essential data. I will send you some software via PM in order to do so. So that you can keep them in a safe place.
