Right well we are no further! We did as you said and when you enter the command it says you have to turn system restore on so you click to turn it on and you go to a page which states "to turn on system protection for a particular date"
click that and you get another page which tells you to click to click to open system and there will be a system protection in the left panel ...Unfortunately there is nothing in the left panel or anywhere else?
The only discs we have are device drivers & utilities

Do you have a model number for this laptop?

Just a quick suggestion, at the command prompt try typing: explorer See if that loads the Windows 'shell', if it does then it's a simple enough fix to re-enable the instant loading - can then go about fixing the other issues.

Kevinin Chester we have done as you suggested and it seems to have loaded up the windows "shell". TakeThis I have just worked out half the numbers on the back relate to Windows!!! - Dont think you would want all of them:o
