• Hi-I would echo what the others say and don't put the holiday on your credit card. If you really are that fed up spend all your time and energy on saving up for a weekend away-dont put it on credit. Look at my debt-this was caused by the same impulsive holiday going as you-Barcelona this Friday-lets go! etc etc but now I have £8000+ of debt and because my circumstances have changed I can only really afford to pay the bare minimum off per month so my debt free date is way off-plus i have saddled myself with having to find an extra £140 per month which should be used on my family. You'll enjoy it more if you've saved for it.

I'd echo what the others say, I'd really advise against it - stick the money on a CC. I know its not as exciting, but you'll feel much better in the long run. xx

If you need to get away, why don't you try a Sun holiday - 36 times...

• Hello!

I will try to answer to everyone separately – but thanks to everyone for your posts!!!

Dfw844, Snaggles and all of you who said I am a “spending/beating myself up” kind of person - You’re right. And it didn’t sound mean, it’s the truth and it’s not a nice habit I have. Yes, I do that. I will not spend on the spur of the moment. I did it many times in the last year and look where it ended. My friend just found a great deal for 5 days for “250 incl flight, in a nice hotel and she really wants to go and she does understand about my debt (a sweetheart). So the last thing she said was this afternoon, she said she will book it and I can pay her back over time, like £50 at a time. I told her I would sleep on it but what I actually meant is that I ask you guys!!! Lending and borroing money between her and me has never been a problem. I have been both on the lender, both on the borrower end and we are “compatible” J so please, please I could really do with some advice. I really want to do it.

AND something amazingly unbelievable happened this evening. And I totally believe it happened because the universe wanted to reward me for saying no to gran canaria. I got home and I had a letter from the tax office. I had queried my previous employers tax payments for the year of 2005/2006 and for 2006/2007 and I sent in all kinds of stuff, and I received a cheque last may for £260 something. But today, I have received ANOTHER!!!!!!!! And you will not believe it because I still don’t, I keep pinching myself: £752.85!!! I mean SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY TWO POUNDS EIGHTY FIVE!:jPayable to ME, no mistake here!!!! I am still in shock. This will be paid in tomorrow. Now I need to allocate it wisely, and what I thought was, a few possibilities:

A.) throw it all at HSBC CC ((bal. £2500ish)
B.) pay for gran canaria £250 and throw rest to HSBC CC (please please I reallywannago):o
C.) pay £50 to my friend = buy her something nice for a tenner re gran canaria and throw rest to HSBC:o
D.) any other suggestions welcome.

Yay, and yay and yay again!!!!! It’s a miracle! It’s really a miracle… CAN YOU BELIEVE? Once it clears, I will update my sig…oh my god. And it’s so good you guys really care and not tell me what I want to hear but give me real advice…I reallt want to know what you think about this new gran canaria situation as it has changed since this afternoon. I am also thinking about just throwing the whole sum at the debt and not go but I really really would like to… and the £50 payment plan sounds great – ehh who am I trying to convince – YOU ;) :j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j

ZTD, what do you mean by a Sun holiday? J

X x x let me know what you think, please please. I am so happy for the cheque I cant tell you how happy I am, even if I don’t go to gran can, I will be jumping up and down all week… wow seven hundred pounds. I just had to touch it again to believe its real….:T:j:cool: IT IS!!!

Oooooooooooohhhhhh free money! Nice one! Always good to get a windfall.

Personally (and this really is just me) I would put it towards paying off nearly 20% of my debt. Then I would save £50 a month and have a late holiday. If I can't afford to save £50 then I couldn't afford to borrow it.

Ohhh decisions decisions!
• Thanks, thanks :) oh sometimes how i hate the common sense and the wiseness that's on this dfw board.... :):):)

(I can afford to save £50 really really :)) ohh gosh i am really pathetic, aren't I???

Honestly, if it was me, I'd put it all towards debt. Once you are debt free, you can focus on saving towards a lovely holiday, but until then, it kind of defeats the point of being here a little, don't you think? Just me though. and its always nice to receive all that ;) xx

(((HUGS)) I'm sorry if it feels like we're ganging up on you. Its not meant to be like that, its just offering a different perspective. At the end of the day, only you can make the decision xx
