Right, I decided to force myself back to the bright side of life because otherwise I will just feel miserable.

So, I have flled out a complaint form for HSBC at the financial ombudsman service and I am posting it today. No change to my account balance at HSBC so I guess they dropped the case. I received another "So sorry we will forward your complaint blahblah" email again today, identical to the first five. So its going off today and I guess it will take about 8 weeks - well I guess I'll have to wait, that’s my best bet. And I feel very good because even if they decided to close my account I would be able to get that money together and pay them back, because, believe it or not, I have only £1020 outstanding1 I know I said this already but I cant actually believe it… this card has been maxed out since September 2005! Every month I struggled to make the minimum payment and whenever I made it and it cleared, I spent it all again, it was always maxed out. And now, the balance is £1020!!! I have £1000 available credit! (now now, I am no going to spend it seriously) but yesterday we went to selfridges with friends and Iw as walking there in the handbags section and I saw bags for like £780 etc and I said to myself, WOW, I actually COULD just hand over my plastic and buy this gorgeousness, and it was a great feeling that the fact I am not buying is NOT that I can not, but it is actually my choice not to.

Amazing. And the same on american express where I have about £900 available, tooo… how great to know that I have access to it and I still restrict and also save too. I am tryign to feed myself with these positive thoughts because it si so ahrd to hang on and so hard not to give up…. Yesterday I gave up a little and had a starbucks drink with my friends, but you know what? I am saving ore than £400 a month, I am bloody allowed to treat myself from time to time! True, I messed up my life with debt and I am the only one to blame but I am not in a situation where bailiffs are coming after me or where my debt is unmanageable, thank god. So I don’t need to save desperately and every penny, and whilst I understand that saving is priority, I just realised that it will take me another 6 months to clear my debt, but at least 5. Now if I kept on saving and saving and denying everything, I will lose 6 months of my life. I rather pay my debt back over 7 months instead of 6 and actually have a life in those seven months, than to lose 6 months and be miserable, especially for the whole lovely spring and summer, I am 25 and I can not afford to lose 6 months of my life just because I was a fool two years ago. I face the consequences but I will not be an other kind of fool and deny myself everything. There is nothing scary about the situation now. A year ago I had twice this debt and no job. Now I halved my debt, have a great job and housing security, I have nothing to be afraid of, yes the debt is there but it will go away if I consciously pay off chunks. I am not in arrears, I am not being threatened by creditors, nor harrassed, I am easily making much more than the minimum payments, my cards have better percentage and deals now, I have to stop panicking, and I have to start getting my life back as well as paying off my debt too. I don’t want to end up in the hospital again.

Sorry for the long ramblings. I guess I needed to get it out of my system. Please tell me if Im wrong. So I make a commitment to reduce my debt every month by £400 a minimum. This can be the sum of card repayment and the saved money. I wont save more than like £40 or so a month but I do want to put a little bit aside so that I know that I have actual positive balance, real money somewhere, as opposed to the "access of money" that I have on my credit cards. So if anything happens, lets say cards become cancelled etc, stolen, lost, whatever, then I will have actual money to spend until thew situation clears up. And I have revised my goal on amex too. If you rememer, I am spending on amex because this gives me air miles. Now billing date is the 26th of each month and I need to make payment by the 20th of next month. This means if I pay back the full bill amount I wont get charged interest. My goal is to keep the amex bill under £600 by the 26th of March. This can very easily be achieved. Not evry easily, but you know. And then to keep it under £700 by the 10th of April. Now this will be ahrd cus this will mean I can only spend £100 in 15 days and this is actually the weekend when I go to Stockholm. So I will see ut that’s the goal. And if I earn soemthing from ebay I can throw it at the spending money…

I still have not received the greenemtropolis monies even though I requested them a week ao. I know theys ay bank transfers usually take 5 to 10 working days but they are usually there within a week so I started to get worried a little bit. But in any case, we will see what happens. I ahvent sold any more books on that one. Ebay update: only one of my items is selling, the body butter from the body shop and for a suprisingly high amount, £3.40 plus £2 postage, that’s almost the RRP! The rest of them don’t sell at the moment which makes me slightly worried, but I know ebay enough now to know that most of the itesm only sell within the last two days… so right now I have a perfume there, for men, so I expect to receive about £15 inlc package for it. That’s £20 alltogether. I also have a colleaction of luxury soaps, will be lucky if sells for £5, that’s another £25 and then I put an empty cream bottle there too just as an experiment, but I wont be surprised if it doesn’t sell… 2 people watching the perfume and 5 people watching the soap even though no bids so I hope that one of them will buy, even if only for the minimum price.

So that’s it for this morning… :) thanks for keeping an eye on me.

Hooray!!! You have seen the light!!!

I was thinking about how to reply to your last post when you were so down was planning to write something along the lines of 'Your debt is manageable, you have a good wage, it's not a race to pay it off'

But I don't need to write it, you have written it yourself! Well done you!

At 25 and you have learned a lesson some of us much older are still struggling to learn - about being clear what you want and what is worth paying for. You will be debt-free this year and a good money manager all your life.

deliciosa can you give me your eBay username again please? I'd like to keep an eye on the stuff you're selling in case I like anything?

Thanks and keep your chin up - you are very right about having a life while you pay your debt off.

I know nothing about mortgages and stuffs, but once you've got your debt sorted, would they given you a bigger number? Or is it based on income or whatever? :)
