so if you have one on the way it will be very different next year. (and when the are tiny they will be amused by anything, so the first few christmases can be very cheap, they don't even notice if things are second hand).

Sorry to hear that, no they shouldn't be going through that especially at their age....it's terrible

No, i haven't got any children, and non on the way...

Yes i know that's quite sad at 38 years of age, but it's just the way it is, unfortunately.......

Hope you all have a nice day xx

I'm another who finds Christmas difficult. It always makes me sad . . . and the carols make me cry:o. I love the idea of the 'perfect' magazine Christmas but, for me, the reality never comes anywhere near.

Hey ho - it's another day and we'll survive! Can't be doing with all that 'enforced jollity' either so I will revel in being a Grumpy Old Woman!!

I just wondered if anyone else dreads xmas?

I know, it will be, just another day, no presents, fancy food etc as my family can't afford it....

I will be glad when it's all over
I know what you mean. I live alone, i refuse to be sad only when the soppy films come on though. My dad passed away last december from cancer. Big hole I know, but me and my brother will be at my mums tomorrow for xmas dinner, cant wait as its family time.

My 13yr old daughter usually stays from boxing day onwards but because I disciplined her in november for being rude nasty and ignorant. No apology, and her dad not making her apologise as hes enjoying the dispute like he always does.
Anyway i refuse to let that upset me and use the time available to paint my kitchen a new colour. I also received a bonus from work so that is going to either a new sofa (old one 10 years old) or a new wardrobe from ikea.

Xmas is all about family coming together and i have spent some wonderful time with my mum getting to know her again this year.

    Thanks milliemonster

But i do believe having money does help, when you haven't got the spare cash to buy & make a christmas dinner and have to settle for a sandwich only adds to the sadness....

I I am sorry to disagree, I have for the first time in my life enough money to not worry about buying presents, dinner etc but the family I would want to buy for are not here now, My Dad, Son and best friend are gone,, would rather we were all eating egg & Chips than this horrible empty feeling that I have.

  • sorry to hear you're feeling sad Goblin. It is a tough time of year for people who have troubles in their lives and it is difficult when there isn't much money, particularly when you have kids.

I'm one who doesn't go much on Christmas either, there's more of us about than you think.

Thanks, sorry for your loss, that's awful.

I do understand as my partner of 10 years died 3 years ago, and 2 of my best friends...

When i mention money does help, i meant it in a way as in being able to put the heating on, pay the bills and buy food shopping etc...

As being cold all the time, worrying about how the next bill is going to be paid etc, does get you down, especially around christmas time.

All that's needed is a card and a small present like a box of chocolates or something; you don't have to do the full commercial shebang.
  • Can I join you?

Just wanted to give a big (((hug))) to all - so sorry for all your loses xxx

I've not looked forward to Christmas that much for many years - for me, the commercialisation of it has ruined it and, with no kids in the family ..... DM tries her best to make it special (and I do really appreciate that I still have both of them) but I'm afraid it's just another day to me that's lost it's meaning.

I do usually look forward to the time off work - but not this year (see below)

Goblin, I'm 39 and the same .... understand totally.

This year I've been absolutely dreading it .... this will pale into insignificance compared to what some of you are going / have been through ao I apologise now ....

I lost my beloved dog a few weeks ago:sad:. Living by myself and having no friends near, he was my constant companion and best friend - he was with me all the time and went everywhere with me. I am just lost without him and honestly have no idea how to fill in the days without him - usually we'd be having days visiting places a bit further away and going extra special walks :(

TBH I can't wait for it to be over ....

ETA: I am grateful to be having a lovely dinner tho' - last year we (me and them) were snowed in and I spent it alone ....
