Sad at christmas

I am sad this year too ,as it's my first Christmas I've not spent it with my dad, he's on his own this year and I know it'l play on my mind all day tomorrow, that he's on his own, while I get to spend it with OH's family.
I've sent him a lovely letter with his presents though, so hopefully it'l remind him how much I'm thinking of him.The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -

Aww.... that's a shame, can he not go with you?0 -
I'm not feeling particularly festive this year but I am looking forward to being surrounded by family for a couple of days. I think it's just what I need, Christmas or not. We're not really big on the whole gifts thing, no young children around so we keep it very low key (one year nearly forgetting to exchange gifts!!) OP I hope you end up enjoying the day.0

The Irish Sea separates us sadly
He was made redundant just before Christmas too and he knew it was coming, so couldn't really go to the expense of flights/ferry as he's not sure when he'l be in employment now.
My plan was to go home, but I feel too heavily pregnant to cope with it all at the moment and OH has to work most of the festive period so couldn't have came along.
We had a long chat on the phone this morning though, and he doesn't sound too down about it all, his girlfriend will come over tonight to see him so at least I know he has that

Can you not afford to travel to church - either for midnight mass tonight or the Sunday service tomorrow?
Use a free local newspaper, cut into strips and make paper chains to decorate the house. Go for a walk tomorrow and say "Happy Holidays" to as many people as possible. Hug, phone, Skype as many of your relatives as you can. It depends on what you really want from the day.
I second this. I'm a support worker and brought some coloured card for one of the people we look after to make some garlands. Its took her 3 weeks and she has hundreds but she has really enjoyed it and it cost 1.50 for the card from wilcos and 50p for a roll of tape. You can make things for the tree, play board games, make a game from a large box. I don't know about the rest of you but when i was young i remember the things we did rather than the presents we had (like an hour ago i went into home bargains and remembered one year when my nan didn't have much so brought a cheap tin from a charity shop and filled it with foxs glacier mints, still remember it 15 years down the line). You can never buy quality time together and its what makes the memories not a load of overpriced rubbish that the shops try and sell us.
Have a good Christmas and enjoy it with the family
