Sad at christmas

I went out for dinner last night with friends, and in our area of the restaurant there were two couples. One couple, the lady was crying into her dinner. The other couple, one left half way through the meal, leaving the other eating alone. It puts things into perspective sometimes doesn't it. The Street Pastors were out in town, giving chocolates and support to the homeless.
No matter how bad it is for you, it's probably much worse for someone else

Yes, very true, thanks0 -
I am sorry you feel like this, truth be said as I lost my mum this year xmas wont be the same. I do have a family left so will have one daughter he and MIL and my OH and me, my other daughter is working.
I wish you well. I have had xmas on my own in the past, my choice so I know how lonely it can be0 -
I don't like christmas due to childhood events and something I went through a few years ago, I don't like the commercial aspect to it either.
I have a 3 year old so have made a real effort for him this year as he really likes all the lights and santa stuff but I have always bought presents for nigh on each family member and some have never acknowledged the presents let alone given thanks for them so this year I said we were getting for kids and thats it. I've bought food for a normal roast dinner and a load of party food and that'll sort me hubby and DS. It's only a big thing if you make it that way, and as another poster said it is only one day so I don't see why people feel the need to spend shedloads and even get into debt for it.
Society tends to gloss over the feelings some people have of missing family and loved ones, whether seperated by distance or those who have left us but christmas is a very sad time for some people.0 -
this is my first christmas without my beloved dad who died last boxing day, if i'm being honest i've been dreading it all year and no amount of christmas jingles or smiles on my 3 beautiful kids faces can make me feel any better.
would just like to go to sleep and wake up in a few months

Christmas is always sad, having lost my partner and daughter many years ago - it's just not the same anymore.
I have a new girlfriend for the first time in many years this year and she wants it to be special, and i'm lucky that she's very understanding about my losses.
I hope anyone who can't wait for it to be over, gets through tomorrow relatively unscathed.0 -
I think its important to realise that you are not on your own. The myth that everyone is having a happy jolly time surrounded by lots of loving family is just that - a myth.
My 13 yo is very poorly and doesnt cope well with Christmas. We have to try and make it as good as we can for our younger son but its not easy. I would give anything to have one Christmas where my son was OK and to not have to think about all the hospital visits coming up in January and the difficult choices we have to make about his future.
All the money in the world would not make it right for me.
Take care hun, be kind to yourself and remember that Christmas can be whatever you want it to be. Dont believe all the commercial crap and remember that you are not alone.0 -
Thanks milliemonster
I am sorry to hear about your mother, and the situation with you're father...
I understand the lonely feeling, this will be the 3rd xmas without my partner, he passed away too....
I know presents & money aren't everything, it's the spending time with the ones you love, i miss the most.
But i do believe having money does help, when you haven't got the spare cash to buy & make a christmas dinner and have to settle for a sandwich only adds to the sadness....
Trouble with xmas, is that too many apply pressure to themselves from peer pressure, "you should be doing this or doing that"
The time is what you make of it, some like being with loved ones, and January is the busiest time for divorce solicitors (go figure)
That said if loved ones are resting where no shadows fall, then only time may heal that wound
Anyways, as for food, I was in asda early hrs of the morning (didn't wanna fight with the traffic and crowds (gosh it's only closed for a day)
The meats etc that was stacked up will certainly not sell today, so they 'have' to reduce the price, out of curiosity I may pop down at 1830 as I bet £7 joints will be reduced to £1 or £2, sprouts were stacked up in the front, got a bunch of fruit for 10p :cool:0 -
The commercial side of Christmas I find a bit depressing. I will celebrate Christmas with my inlaws who are in massive debt and pretend they aren't, so I don't enjoy opening the presents I receive. I wish they were not in debt, did not have to work full time past retirement age so they could see more of their grandson.
Christmas is all about the little ones, so if you have one on the way it will be very different next year. (and when the are tiny they will be amused by anything, so the first few christmases can be very cheap, they don't even notice if things are second hand).0
