My dad died yesterday.

My Dad died of cancer at 1.30 yesterday. Me and my sister was with him.
The hospital was absolutely appaling.
My sister went out to tell them he'd died and not one person came in to see us. We left at 4, with no acknoledgement from any member of staff and his body was still on the ward.
I feel absolutely distrauht.
The day before he was screaming in agony and they kept forgetting to give hime the morphine unless we told them.

  • Awk god. I am so so sorry for your loss Merlin. Try and get through the next few days & then decide which action is best to take with regards the hospital.

All my sympathies to you & your extended family.

I'm really sorry to hear that Merlin and hopefully your father is at peace now.

I'd be writing a strongly worded letter to your PCT, stating everything that was done that upset you and your family, it won't help bring your dad back, but they should be made aware exactly what is going on within their hospitals.

I hope you can remember your Dad for the man he was and the good times you had together. xx

  • So sorry Merlin. x
  • didnt want to read and run, my sincere condolences to you and your sister. That sounds awful time you had with the hospital and everything must seem very numb just now. Your going to be busy and somewhat in autopilot and because of the holiday the arrangements might be delayed a bit. Just try and take one thing on at a time and try and be around people, i know thats what helped me, my dad passed away very suddenly in May this year.
  • Awful news Merlin. So very sorry for your loss - and the treatment you experienced :(

It was horrible to watch, it was only just before he died that they removed the secretions in his throat, he'd been gugrgling and choking for 2 days, basically drowning in phlem and screaming in pain and they just didn't bother making him comfortable.

    merlin,

So sorry for you to have such a painful loss, especially at this time of the year.

Maybe contact PALs and ask them to liaise with the hospital.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
  • God how awful, I'm so sorry :(

I hope you take action against the dreadful treatment your father and family endured.

Sorry to hear about your loss. My father went into hopsital 3 years ago this boxing day with a chest infection, he was 62. He died on New Years Day which was unexpected on Boxing day. Bad time of year for passing family members but time is a great healer. I hope you have a good Chritmas and remember the good times.

(((Hugs))). I have huge sympathy for you, OP. You are understandably hurt and angry at the moment. I would not wait before lodging a formal complaint, if the ward staff think that this is acceptable behaviour then other families will suffer the same.
