Hi all,
.....- so am wondering whether I should go for the 'easy min wage' extra or try and work more on getting my own streams of income.
)
This is what I've been mulling over.
My thoughts are OH's pension, the money the boys are paying me back and a few hours a week at the garden centre if I can get in. That way the money is all mine, no benefits, no means testing. That would cover the basics without having to dip into my (small) nest egg too much.
Then because I'm not on benefits I can set up my beauty therapy and bric-a-brac in my "spare" time.
My suggestion would be - if you can manage without the "easy min wage" extra and can cover your outgoings and living expenses then it might be better to concentrate your efforts and energy into generating your own income.
I think it can be worth going it alone, although it can be a bit hit and miss to start with but then working for yourself is often "feast or famine". It just depends on whether or not you need the cushion of either benefits or a guaranteed wage to meet your day to day living costs.
My sister's friend has set up her own cleaning business, charges around £9 an hour, plus travel expenses and is having to turn people away. She works hours to suit her children and earns far more that she would in a min wage shop/pub type job.
How fab it will be when your book is published and you're up there on the best-seller lists. Do you still do the matched betting.
Off to have a little nap, then get the yoga mat out and then cook dinner.
For a bit of fun
I've slipped a bit into Bag Lady mode these last couple of weeks and need to address this.
So - to get us all on the right track - how about Fashion Friday. We wear some thing nice, something we don't wear wear every day or we wear something we normally wear but in a different way, jazzing it up with accessories.
We then "show and tell" or as in my case "write and tell". I will be going to a quiz at the nursing home so will make an extra effort and try and put a nice outfit together.
Any hoo off for a cuppa and that nap. X0 -
I live with a chiropodist and she usually tells people to file their feet (you can get a foot file for about £1) and she highly recommends this. I think you can get it on prescription coz I think she said that's how her clients get it. Not entirely sure though. You can get it on places like amazon
Hope that makes sense.
Thanks Willow, i wil have a look on Amazon. I think i saw foot files in superdrug the other day so i'll pop in there when i am next in town.
Thanks again.0 -

Hello all - just read through the days posts and big hugs to all of you struggling with jobs, benefit agencies etc - must be very stressful.
I also think that Fashion Friday is a good idea too - I'm limited as to what I can change as I'm a teacher at a school that has a business dress policy (suits only) but I can try to sneak in some little touches so I don't look like a grey prison warder!
Today hasn't been too bad fab-wise -I have stuck to SW so far, tomorrow is the official end of the first week weigh in:eek:, dried my hair nicely and wore makeup and perfume and a nice bright red scarf with my suit, then walked the dog in the pouring rain.
Tonight I'll walk the dog again and then have a nice bath and maintain the now usual routine of taking off makeup and using night cream and handcream. If I feel really motivated I'll also do a body scrub in the bath.
I've bitten the bullet and sent off for an information pack for the Spice UK group (adult social group for those not in the know) - had two personal emails straight away from them (not automated things) and they seemed very friendly - so who knows? I may even go to something:rotfl:0 -

Just reading the idea about Fashion Friday has made me realise, with a bit of a jolt, that Mr LW is actually choosing my clothes for me these days; I really have to get the wretched Black Dog under control.
I have done 40 mins total on the Wii Fit today, though, so that has to count for something.:oIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Hello all
Fashion Friday sounds a good idea I work in a school as well doing admin and wear a lot of black. (It's slimming!) I have a lovely orange pashmina that I don't wear often enough so I will wear it on Friday.
I'm off to the gym tonight and after that I will re-do my nails - how often does everyone else's nail varnish last? Even with a top coat on they still seem messy after one day.

I would just like to say a wee thank you to all the kind people on this thread. Even though I only joined a (very) short time ago it has had such a positive impact on my life. The pounds had crept on on my self esteem had taken a bit of a beating, these were also combined with a hefty dose of self pity
.
Anyway reading this thread made me realise I was the only person that could change things and that life was passing me by while I worried about a few pounds. Now I am cleansing and toning each day, spraying on perfume, wearing clothes I love and getting out and doing things that make me happy. That tied in with a new haircut and the promise to myself that I will eat better and move more has set me on the path to fabulousness.
Today I took my DD swimming, for years this has been a real dread for me but today I focused on my glowing skin and giant smile, breathed in and went out to have a fabulous time. I have booked dance classes that I have wanted to do for years and I am excited about what this year will bring.
Thank you so much for helping me to see that I can be a little more fabulous every dayTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Evening all, not caught up with the thread, yet as not been on for a couple of days as laptop been playing up.
Painted my finger nails last night and when my dd saw them, she said but thats not right mum, you don't do that, you normally wear it on your toes. So I told her I was just trying it out and she said it looked good.
My nails even got commented on at work today as the colour matched my phone and my top, didn't mean to colour co-ordinate.
Managed 20 mins on cross trainer last night, had a walk today at lunch and planning on another 20 mins on cross trainer later.
Hope everyone's ok and not been too blown away.Chiari Brain Malformation - decompression survivor
