Frump to Fab - Summer Solstice Sizzler

Just a quickie - I'm reading but not really able to post.
Can't sit, can't stand for more than a few seconds, lying down is agony, can't drive. Took prescribed painkillers - didn't kill pain just made me feel ill. Woe is me. Can't see OH.
Today it finally happened - the phone went at 8-00 this morning. I knew exactly what it would be and frankly have been dreading this.
Mum collapsed last night. Dad tried to lift her and fainted. I've have begged and pleaded with them to get help but they wouldn't. I knew this would happen.
Mum in hospital, dad now ill and barely able to look after himself, sister on holiday, me powerless to help. It's just how I predicted it would happen and of course, all on a bank holiday;)
Dad tells me the hospital are talking about sending Mum home. I've told him he has to refuse until some sort of system can be put in place. It's not safe for either of them. I'm so worried for them but until I'm a bit more mobile there's not much practical help I can come up with. Just supporting my dad over the phone is the best I can do at the moment.
I know I very often come over as a right pain in the a*se know it all bossy boots, nagging at some of you to take care and plan ahead but I've just seen so much lately to know what disasters can lie in wait. Dad has only got a couple of days food in the house.
I'll have to get my sons to the rescue - luckily they are great young men and will be happy to oblige.
Yes I'm sufre this thread will continue one way or another. My life is decidedly less than fab. I couldn't even get my hair done, never mind I'll get BIL to give it a trim for now when he get's back off his hold - he's quite good with the scissors.
Sparkles - great news about your mums new trousers - and such a bargain too.
Must go and lie down again - my back is killing me.:(0 -

LL firstly have a hug. Secondly it won't help much in right now but have you ever seen an osteopath for your back? When I've been in the position you are in now I did and they did things to my back that the physio said I would have to live with because it was the way I was made  they're not cheap but I consider it the best money I ever spent. Is it your lumbar region? Can you get on the floor with assistance and do the Bowen Technique that someone posted a link to? Could one of your lads give you a firm massage in the affected area? I am glad your boys are available to step into your shoes and do the practical things. I hope they keep your mum in until something better can be put in place xI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

LL - that's what grandsons are for! I'm sure they'll throw themselves into helping out. While they're at it, get them to give you some help too! Sounds like you need it lately. Take care of yourself.
Been to see Prometheus with doggy friend - it was quite good and left itself open to a sequel (won't spoil it for those that want to see it). Still pouring with rain here - looks much the same as in London from what I've seen on the telly of the Queen's do.
Will be dropping guest dog off in about half an hour and then my house can have a good tidy after our little demolition visitor.
He hasn't damaged anything but every toy in the house is out and every time I tidy them up out they come again!:rotfl:0 -
Started sorting out the wardrobe, and putting my clothes away. Each has its own slot at the moment. Never had so many shelves and drawers. But they are filling up fast. EEK. Least I can see where the duplicates are and what I could parr down even more.
Have two bedside lockers that are full of junk! So I have my work cut out for me for a while sorting that lot out.
I am going to try and sleep in the middle of the bed tonight. I always stay on one side. But I dont need to now. Cos I wont be sharing it with anyone again. I can spread out to my hearts content.
I am actually looking forward to an early night as I am so tired.
Twin1 cancelled coming over so I dont have to stand on ceremony and as we are obviously not celebrating our anniversary and going out tonight DGD and I just had mince, potatoes and green beans for our tea. Comfort foods.
Hating the weather. What a wash out for all the celebrations.
Bet the Queen was cold out on that water today. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Hi folks,
Thanks for sharing your "news". I've not had much to comment upon recently. Once my back became "better", another pain-related symptom of a health problem I have reoccurred. Consequently, lapsing into the "frump" attitude/ways at times but still tackling "healthier" eating with determination.
Good luck with your aims.0 -
Morning all!
It's stopped raining!:j:j:j
Just weighed and there's no change so the weightloss remains at 3lbs - not surprising really considering what I've eaten. The mail meals have been good but far too many snacks and treats. Back on the straight and narrow again now.
I've been invited to a BBQ this evening so provided the rain holds off I'll pop over for an hour or two later - being a veggie BBQs aren't really my thing and hayfever always spoils them for me but I don't want to be ungrateful so will go for a little while.
The hair dying is done and I look vaguely presentable now.
I'm going to walk the dog for 30 mins in a minute then force myself to do the elusive schoolwork for a few hours.
Hope everyone with aches and pains are feeling a bit better today?0 -
Sorry to hear about your Mum and Dad LL. Glad that your boys can help out and hope your back gets better soon. Have been lurking for a long time but I really enjoy this thread and reading everyone's news.My Mum's not too good at he moment and doctor says she will need oxygen at home soon for her heart failure. Her brother and his family are travelling up to see her today so that will cheer her up.0

Morning all,
Mooloo - am so sorry about the bf, as Bitsy says both you and dd deserve better, maybe try and take some time just to do some fun stuff for you or with dgd?
Bitsy - think the list of goals is a great idea - I love listsI usually have some fairly do-able short term ones and then some longer term ones to work towards. Hope you're enjoying your book x
Lizzie - am sure you'll find something, when you get a little more confident could even look at starting something yourself as am sure if there isn't much in your area there must be others in a similar position. Not sure what you're into at the moment but something like a book club, coffee morning or cinema trip would be fairly easy to sort out?
Sparkles - how lovely for your mum, think your fabbing is rubbing off on herHope the assignment's going well x
EpsomOldie - it's definately not too late to join, I'm sure we will have another one after this but why not get a head start, the sooner you start you sooner you'll be fab
LL - sending you *hugs* hope you're feeling a bit better and of course it's typical that something would happen with your parents while you're like thatHope they're both ok, do you think it might possibly give them the kick they need to look at getting some help?
WW - your doggy visitor sounds great, glad you liked Prometheus, am thinking of going to see it with my film group on Wednesday - am actually a little bit nervous as haven't been to anything with them for months, keeps conflicting with other things, but that's probably why I should force myself to go, am sure it will be fine when I get thereHope you enjoy your bbq, I'm veggie too so must admit not the biggest fan of them either but just the chilling in the garden with people is usually nice even if you can't eat much
dannie - hope you're ok hun, frustrating how health all seem to rear up at once
vnms - glad you're still with us, sorry your mum's not too great at the moment though, maybe the oxygen might make things a little easier for her though x
Anyways, busy weekend as usual, went to Dundee on Saturday, was actually a really nice train ride, went over the Forth and the Tay bridges and some lovely countryside on the way up. The band shoot went ok, though was a little annoyed as they had originally asked me to cover their rehearsal and then to do some promo shoots afterwards - but said they weren't sure on a location as they didn't know the area very well, said that was fine and I would go over early to have a look round. So got there about 2 hours early, was walking round a lot and found some great places - for them to say at the end of the rehearsal, 'oh, I think we'll leave them for now.' Ah well, I suppose it's less editing for me etc but just a bit annoying that they couldn't have said that beforehand. Had a quietish day yesterday, managed to get a bit of fabbing done - did a condition on my hair, a bit of a defuzz, bodyscrub and finally sorted my nails out - they're a lovely Cadburys purple at the moment, though may need to add another coat tonight, I love the colour but it does chip easily. Tried one of those crackle polishes over the top but wasn't too keen - was only one from the poundshop and I quite liked the effect but not the colour, was meant to be gold but was rather dull and bland. Has anyone used a good one?
OH is out tonight so quiet night, should probably get some photo editing done, though am quite tempted to go and see the Avengers with a friend. Will see how I feel later
Hope everyone has a good day and those with aches, pains and illness feel better soon x0 -
Thanks WelshWoofer and Podperson. Yes, very frustrating. However, todays been much better doing odd jobs. Just keeping busy and completing tasks is uplifting.0
