morning all. Wasn't on for a few days as I was off work on a long weekend and took a break from the computer.
I feel a good bit better after relaxing, although I think my family are trying to wind me right up with wedding invites/attendance and I'm trying not to let them!

On the fab front, I've recently discovered that a lot of the companies who's products I use (makeup, shampoo, shower gel, everything really) either DO test on animals or are owned by companies that do. I was under the impression I was using stuff that wasn't but now I've discovered this I'll have to make sure anything new I buy isn't. I can't afford to throw everything out and start over but when I get something running out you can be sure it'll be replaced by something that isn't tested on animals.
If anyone has any suggestions or products they like I'd appreciate it :)

    Good morning all

Bratz - I'll have a think about that one, surely these days there's no longer any need to test on animals for cosmetics and toiletries. Although I suppose the argument would be that it's all those anti-aging ingredients (ha) that they use now - they need to be tested for safety. They would argue they are only doing what the customer wants...

Maman - re new spring/summer trends. I've not noticed anything that seems strikingly new or different. I've not been into town for a while to look at clothes but I had a look round Asda and Sainsbury's recently.

TBH I thought most of it was a load of boring old tat - although to be fair they are only supermarkets so hardly likely to be cutting edge. :rotfl:

The styles seemed just a continuation of what's been around for a while. The most obvious thing that struck me was the use of bright, vivid colours. I found some of the clothes rather garish - but then that's just me. I don't do "loud" colours - although I'm fond of the occasional splash of red.

There did seem to be lots of pattern around, large flower prints and geometrics and I did notice plenty of coloured jeans, still plenty of maxi dresses.

I did buy a pair of chocolate brown jeans recently - that's probably as far as I would go with coloured jeans/trousers. I prefer to keep my basics fairly neutral and just add colour with a top, jewellery, scarves, belts etc. My brown jeans I team with a chocolate brown cardie for a nice long line of block colour to make me look taller and slimmer. I do the same with dark denim jeans and a denim coloured cardie.

I have got a number of tops I wear the brown combo - plain mustard, burnt orange, pale blue, dusky pink, cream. I did buy a mustard/brown/grey geometric print top to try out. A bit of a departure for me but I quite like it. It sounds awful but it does look good against the brown.

I don't much care for flower prints so I think I will probably buy a couple of geometric or abstract print tops to ring the changes and keep just a bit "on-trend":rotfl:

My summer trousers are usually pale grey, various shades of beige, cream, white, navy, denim. Same with skirts, although I do have a couple of printed skirts. I don't actually have any dresses worth mentioning at the moment - just a couple of sun frocks.

BTW - got a nice compliment the other day. DS1 tells me his mate thinks I'm really cool. Apparently I'm not like other "old ladies" of his acquaintance - using the internet, keeping up with current affairs, films, fashion and just generally "knowing stuff".

Back to the rain today .....

    Sisters

I am very lucky to have my fab sister. Sisters don't have to be your own flesh and blood, they can be your best friend you've known forever or someone you've just met. Sisters who love and cherish each other, who stick together through the good and the bad - sisters are in it together.

    Silliness

We should always make room for a bit of silliness in our lives. I love those Malteser adverts where the girls indulge in complete silliness. We all need to giggle a little.

I had an ex boyfriend who hated it when my sister and I engaged in silliness. Guess maybe that's why he's an ex.:rotfl: OH and BIL understood and would just join in.

The first time I met BIL we all went to an antiques fair. Sis and I were sat in the back of the car with my boys when "Queen" came on the radio singing "Bohemian Rhapsody". We joined in - and BIL was astonished. Soon we were all singing along - just like the scene out of Wayne's World. BIL often mentions it and tells the story to everyone - how he married into this really strange weird family. He must have led a very sheltered life. A life without silliness is very boring.

    Success

Of course success means different things to different people. However there is one constant. It doesn't come easy.

"The dictionary is the only place where success comes before work".

its quite a shock when you first look to see just how bad it is, isn't it? the BUAV give out a "little book of cruelty free" on their website thats full of companies they certify as def not testing on animals. PETA also has a full list of ones that don't and ones that do. the lists changed recently, estee lauder and avon are back on the "do test" list because they've started animal testing to sell products in china, but a lot of the other companies they both own like MAC, Bobbi Brown and Liz Earle are still not testing so are safe to use. L'oreal and the companies they own are the biggest to avoid.

Well my nan passed away this morning. All the family got there, gave her a kiss and then she went. I think everyone is quite relieved really, she really was getting fed up with life. Someone just dying naturally like that is so weird to think about.

I was only going to read, not post, today; but I can't just read and walk away without offering Adelight a (((HUG))) and wishing Nan a safe journey to the Summerlands.
