Interesting discussion about one's home being one's sanctuary; Mr LW already had the bungalow when I moved in with him, and despite the fact that I used my share of the proceeds of the sale of my old house to pay off the mortgage on the bungalow, and also had my name put on the title deeds, I've never been able to think of it as "mine" as such.
Late dins for us yet again... Mr LW rang me at just after 19:00 to say he was leaving work. He was supposed to finish at 17:30 today. He should be in shortly, traffic permitting; the risotto is cooking as I type; so I'm going to sign off now, and go and attend to it.;)If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Not much fabbing here, DS was up all night with ear infection so am afraid I couldn't even bring myself to wear mascara today as I fear I will end up looking like Gene Simmonds from Kiss with rubbing tired eyes
Just wanted to wish a happy birthday to Lamewolf, hope the sun is shining for you xxxxI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

MIA yet again with uni work(diss still not done with 13 days to go, i've made it unnecessarily hard and fiddly to put together and i just can't do a half arsed job) and family troubles. Pretty much everyone seems to be getting ill this year: my dad has lung problems, my grandad is bad, my uncle has lung and bone cancer and now my Nan is in hospital. It's just lots of little things building up with her that need tweaking but my uncle is being very over dramatic and scaring everyone. He posts dramatic things on facebook so people who don't even know us are poking their noses in thinking she's on her last legs. Yesterday he called my Mum saying "something's wrong with her heart get to the hospital now!" so my Mum leaves work in tears and drives like crazy to find her heart rate is just a bit high from being tired as she struggles to sleep with drips and such. My sister called me absolutely furious at him for it. He posts on facebook every few hours and I have to call my sister to check what's actually going on.
Gaaahh, I just have to get it out!! I left my job early this week, haven't seen OH all week, just me in the house and no lectures so I have barely seen anyone and going a bit crazy.
I visited my new work this week and it's knocked my fab drive a bit. It's not like a city environment, you go inside this big glossy building and it's quiet, calm, desks are covered in photos and fluffy toys and smart-casual. Faded trousers, chinos, untucked shirts, day dresses etc so I'm not gonna sweat my split ends or lack of suit.
I'm looking at houses and flats with OH this weekend, I'm really excited. I'd like to get a dog when we're settled so er as I know there are loads of dog lover here, does anyone have any advice? I've never personally owned a dog before will this stop breeders or kennels? If I have a garden and the dog is small will it be okay running around for ~6 hours alone at home?Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
:bdaycake: Happy Birthday LameWolf, hope you have a fabulous day!
Tru - Welcome back!
Evilsquid - Have a lovely time in Paris.
Bitsy - Hope DS is feeling better soon.
Pod - I agree with everyone else, ask cousin for work, it's worth a try.
Mooloo - Good luck with the court attendance.
Tomorrow I am either going to Croome Park (thanks for the recommendations, however there is free entry to Croome this weekend, and some other National Trust properties - it was in the MSE newsletter) or the cinema if the weather is dire. Sunday I am having a tea party at my sister's house (she has more space for guests than me), so looking forward to scones with jam and cream!
I agree that decluttering and having things tidy makes me feel so much better. I have things to sell on Ebay to go into my travelling fund. I have recently gone through all of my paperwork and condensed it down to one small box full. As soon as I have handed in my assignment next week, I am going to start sorting through things and see what else I can sell or take to a charity shop.
Edit - Missed adelight's post - sorry to hear of your family's illnesses. Is there any way you can ask for an extension for the uni work to take the pressure off a little? The new house, job and dog sound very exciting!0 -
Adelight - I've heard about it but never pursued it
do you know if they do a range of colours as black is too harsh on me, need a black brown. Have a hug re family problems xxxx as for a dog? Personally I will say no. They are sociable creatures who don't like being left for long periods so unless you're prepared to pay forms dog walker i think it's unkind on the poor pooch. Depending on the breed they can need two walks a day, depending on the age of the dog there are house training issues and training in general. Dogs left on their own either bark or chew or do both which means a lot of stuff gets damaged and neighbours can get arsey. I have only had Luna because I am at home to be with her. I know there are people who work full time and have dogs but if it's longer than 4 hours its not fair on the dog. Sorry if I am raining on your parade. Happy house hunting
Callisto enjoy Croome it's lovely, we went there last weekI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

callisto they only offer extensions if someone dies or you have mental health problems, it's very strict. Last year I was physically too ill to be in the exam hall and it still wasn't judged serious enough so I got a fail and capped resit. enjoy tomorrow and the tea party, sounds lovely.
bitsy yep brown is common. Eeek!! I had no idea they shouldn't be left for more than four hours, virtually everyone I know who has dogs works full time and walks them before/after work. Oh well, OH is more keen on bantums/quails and I was chief chicken keeper by aged 7 so know I can handle them(not that i want one on a wim, just if it's not right it's not right!)

Adelight - I have a small dog and work full time (teacher). I used to have a retired man that walked his dog at lunchtime walk mine too (for a few years when he was younger, the dog that is) but he moved away. My dog is 8 now and sleeps all day and is active in the evening/morning. On the weekends he's quite put out with me at home disturbing him! I do walk him from 6-6.30 in the morning before I shower etc and I'm home by 4ish and he goes straight out to the park or for a good walk as soon as I get home and again around the block at around 7.30pm. You may be able to get an older dog that is used to your kind of routine?
Well, the decorators have just gone and it looks lovely - I'm very pleased with the job They even took the old carpet away for me - nice fellas! I'm still living in a bombsite with no lounge carpet though until tomorrow.Getting used to it now! The horrible job of ironing and hanging 2 new pairs of curtains has to be done tomorow too - not looking forward to that one:(
I'm supposed to be going out with the Spice lot to a pub night tomorrow - not sure if I'll make it after the epic job of straightening the house again - we'll see how I feel tomorrow.
I didn't sleep again last night and I'm shattered today. I think it was the mess and change of routine that did it this time.
Lots to do this weekend so will pop in when I can.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LW!!!!0 -
Thank you all for the birthday wishes .... and also, Hoppy Birdday:D to Callisto for tomorrow!
Adelight a lot depends on the individual dog, it's temperament, the breed, and how old it is etc; but the guidance we're given as hosts is that we should never leave our canine guests on their own for more than three hours - and conversely any dog accepted as a guest needs to be able to cope with up to three hours alone in a comfy house, with shade, a bed, and water to drink, because hosts have to go and get groceries and do other stuff sometimes.:o HTH.:o No good telling you to relax I guess:cool: - I never got chance at uni, so I don't have first hand knowledge - would a (((HUG))) help at all?:o
Bitsy  @ the prospective Gene Simmonds look - I shall be good and not ask if you have the tongue to go with it.:rotfl:
We've just got in from Bletchley Park - fascinating stuff, but a lot to take in! Having some much-needed coffee and a rest before we go to the restaurant this evening. I suspect I shall be worse than useless for most of the weekend.... I'm getting too old for this birthday lark!!:DIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Happy birthdays again to LW and Callistro and you sound like its been a good day
Fab wise today - hmm not too much apart from a 13.42 mile run this morning which was very hard going. Anyway, I got there which means I'm at half marathon stage. Legs recovering very slowly from my very slow plod about. Next 2 weeks will try and improve before the big day.
Did have nice bath to ease the muscles off which worked quite well with my HM bath salts and slung on a moisture mask to sink in too
As a result have felt a bit up and down food wise - hungry and picky then big lunch of leftovers to refuel that I couldn't finish
Managed to settle down and do a little bit of the assignment and will be off in a bit to do some more then a very early night after a light tea and a hot chocolatefinal unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550
