  • i LOVE the tree you did findingmyway! i wish i could make things as beautiful as that!

bratz81 - i know how you feel! we basically told my parents we were getting married in new york to save all this stress and to stop family getting annoyed when we couldn't invite every single person and my dad still managed to invite the american family id never met before until two days before my wedding. it was me, DH, my mum and dad, his mum and two sisters and then my two american relatives supposedly somehow related to me from the irish side of my family. my mum had stressed out so much by that point i just didnt want to start a fight and caved in.

watch them all on the day too, i told my mum before i wanted a lie in, a big breakfast at planet hollywood then to be left to it to get ready nice and slowly and take my time etc. instead she rang my room at 6.30/7am, shouted at me because DH stayed with me and it was "bad luck", dragged me out as soon as planet hollywood opened then stressed because she'd bought glitter and name cards for the table at the restaurant so i had to walk 10 blocks there, put glitter on a table, got into an argument over who was sitting where, quickly nip in duane read for some tights that obv id completely forgotten and walk 10 blocks back. cz id been woken up so early i had to go back to the hotel room and nap. i ended up sleeping through my alarm and had exactly one hour to shower, do make up, hair and put my dress on. obv i was late to the ceremony :rotfl:

Morning everyone, I have a lovely new illness and it's taken me three hours of being awake to feel vaguely human! I've noticed that when I'm even slightly under the weather, a bread based meal is immediately followed by major facial congestion :( And boiled egg and toast is so comforting when you're ill!

Two beauty boxes just arrived and I immediately applied a coat of very pale lilac nail varnish. I didn't even bother evening up my nails first but it still looks nice and has cheered me up a bit. It hasn't quite given me the strength to go to the shops though, which I desperately need to do :( Gah!

    Good morning Everyone

Thanks for all your kind words and good wishes - still feeling a bit grim.

I'm definitely overtired - my throat isn't happy and my neck glands are quite swollen and tender - always a sign that I need to rest. I will take my own advice for once and just scale things down and not try to cram so much in.

TBH I think I simply underestimated the full scale of just how much stress and exhaustion I have endured over the last few months and I've not given myself time to recuperate properly.

I'm so used to living at full tilt and of course I tend to forget I'm not 20 or even 30 anymore. What I really need is some warm sunshine.:rotfl:

I would love a little winter break but it's out of the question at the moment - it's not the money. I'm sure I could rub a few shekels together for a holiday. I just cannot afford the time, plus of course I would feel incredibly guilty going on holiday without my husband. I'm not sure how I'm going to square that one.:o

Still hopefully Spring won't be too long now. Which reminds me we are not that far away from the Spring Solstice - our half way mark. Unfortuntely I've not made a great deal of progress on the fabbing. Definitely need to up my game. I've started using my Olay Daily Sunshine so at least I don't look quite so washed out.

Going to try and make next week a bit of a "me" week, get my hair done, visit the chiropodist etc.

Anyway enough whinging - this morning I got up early and got cracking. Went to Argos and got my OH one of those big button phones.

I've just spent the last couple of weeks setting him up with broadband and a decent TV package. Now he can keep up with the outside world and not feel isolated. I won't bore you with all the faffing around that was involved - suffice it to say that it was far more complicated than it needed to be.

Whilst out I called into Home Bargains. One thing I have noticed is now I'm not looking after OH 24/7 and I have more time to shop and browse I am able to go to places like HB and I am saving a fair bit of money. My housekeeping budget is definitely coming down. Also saving on the gas and leccy because OH needed everything at a sub tropical level just to keep warm.

I'm now off to have some lunch and then tackle some more paperwork. Talk about marathon.

FMW - I love your work. I really love pewter - I notice your workshop is in Sherwood - not a million miles from me. Will have to pop over some time.

Today I picked up a lovely Butler's tray and some wrought iron candlesticks from my favourite CS shop. I bought another butler's tray a few weeks ago. They both need sprucing up - a nice little project for a summers day, when I can do the sanding and prep outside.

Bratz - what can I say - weddings and families. Try not to let them bamboozle you - it's your and your OH's day - dig your little heels in. :rotfl:

Adelight - hope you feel better soon, I tend to have to go easy with bread too.

Anyway am starving - must eat. :rotfl:

    Bye for now x

I'm so glad you can laugh at the wedding story now evilsquid, but I expect for bratz it's still too real. It's amazing how people forget who the main players are in a wedding! When DD2 got married she decided to invite only aunties and uncles who were closest to her growing up (DH has a huge family) in the day and others at night. One auntie was so angry at being given an evening invitation that she didn't speak to DH for 10 years. What was worse that she also didn't speak to my BIL who explained to her it was an evening invitation. Families eh!!

Lovely pewter stuff fmw, how clever of you. Thanks for letting us take a look.

Thanks pod for the advice on smart casual. I've tended to stop wearing tunic tops since I lost weight. I think that's because I wore smocky ones when I wanted to hide my shape and have felt I didn't 'need' them any more. I've taken more to pretty little cardigans over vests or camisoles. I must do another wardrobe sort because I often forget what I have.

:jwillow on the last trip to the job centre. I know you'll do your best to be the fabbest employee Dunelm Mill ever had! This is only the start, here's to a long career as a working girl.

Sorry you're under the weather adelight. It's only since I started doing SW that I realised just how we rely on bread products so much in this country. Grabbing a snack out with so many baguettes, wraps and sandwiches on offer is a nightmare!

Good luck on keeping warm and smart sparkles. I was out at football last night (lost:o) and counted 7 layers of tops I was wearing! I won't even try and describle what I looked like!:rotfl:I'm off to a meeting shortly and planning to wear my long, brown boots but I think they may need cleaning.

    Back later.

podperson - thanks for the comments. To be honest they've really ruined the planning and excitement for us, we're just desperate to get it over with and that's not how I wanted to feel 4 months before my wedding :(

LL and maman - thanks also for the kind words. You're both completely right, why do family think it's all about them, surely it's the bride and groom's day as without them there'd be no wedding!

evilsquid - sorry your wedding was messed up by family too and thanks for the advice to watch them on the day - that hadn't even occurred to me.

I just got a txt from mil2b asking me to check whether I'd remembered to post h2b's brother (different brother) and his wife's invite. I was torn between txting back "f**k off" and "they know my number get them to txt me instead of sticking your big beak in" but managed to restrain it to "of course I did". She then replied with ha ha post must be slow. Sigh

Apparently I'm not getting colds and "didn't you think it was weird that you felt worse after eating?", but I have an allergy. Almost certainly food, probably wheat or gluten. Just when I'm getting good at making bread :( Hmmphhh!

  • bratz81 i felt like that. i know it sounds bad but it was such a relief to sit down in the restaurant with it all over and done with. my first JD and coke that day was literally the best drink I've ever had! plus i think it was mostly JD with a dash of coke and i had rather a few of them plus champagne so i cheered up soon enough :rotfl:
  • Hi All.

So here's me - I need to lose weight to be really fab, but I also need a more positive outlook towards myself.

So today, I've blow dried my hair properly instead of letting it dry into a tangled mess, and I've just been for a manicure. I'm not that happy with what she did (I've not been before) and I won't be going back, but in the meantime, they're better than they were.

On the eating front, I've sadly had chocolate today, but with pilates and Zumba tonight I think I can get away with it :)
I am employed as a manager in a financial services institution. My views are entirely my own.

    Evening ladies!
Sorry I haven't been around since the weekend - just about caught up with all of your news
    Well done Willow!:j
LL - please look after yourself.... your OH is safe and well cared for, now you can afford a little bit of "me" time - and if you go on hols can I come???:D

I've been soooo busy that fabbing has been kept to a bare minimum - hair, make up, perfume and clean clothes - but not much in the way of effort involved. Things should slow down a bit now (saying that, I have a meeting from 6-8pm after work tomorrow:() and I'm determined to spend a bit of time on me. I've managed a hot bath and a defuzz tonight and will force myself to take my make up off tonight if it kills me!

First job for the weekend will be dying hair (again) and maybe getting it trimmed. Eyebrows also need tidying -will have to go to the lady for that - one pluck and I give up!

I know that I'm working too hard lately and need to find something else to distract me - will have to think about this as I always feel guilty and like I'm neglecting work if I slack off a bit (have always been a bit of a workaholic).

Right, I'm off to have a bit of a sit down and watch some mindless telly....

Good to 'see' you ww, surely it must be half term soon so you could have a bit of a rest?

i'm so glad someone else enjoys a bit of mindless telly. That's my idea of relaxation too. Of course, there's mindless and mindless!;)

Just wanted to thank whoever asked about tights causing static with skirts. (:o sorry can't remember). As a result, I dug out my petticoats (of various lengths) and I've really enjoyed wearing them. Not only do I feel more groomed and they're great with opaques which really aren't good next to cotton but they're warm!!!
