I don't know if it's just me that has this problem with McDonald's but...

  • I'm sorry but I don't like your post, do you even know me, my situation? I wish people weren't so quick to judge, a great shame really.
    John.

John, unless you outline your entire situation in your post you should not assume that people know your situation. no-one sees a post and then clicks on the OP's name to read all of their previous posts to understand the context of their whole life. So if the past was relevant then you should mention it in every relevant post. otherwise if read in isolation (as most of us would have done) your post would be taken at face value. I don't see many people judging here - they are merely responding to the facts that you chose to share in this particular post.

Back to your original query - your flash flood of agonising illness every time you eat MacDonalds...You could have an allergy to something in the ingredients. An allergy will react quickly as opposed to food poisoning which takes hours to come on. Best not eat it at all.

There is nothing wrong with taking your kids to eat there and you having nothing (or a drink). I do it all the time - many parents do the same. Its lovely to hear how much your kids enjoyed it - definitely worth finding a solution (that doesn't involve you eating the food) for all of the wonderful benefits your kids get from their time with their daddy.

It sounds like you are also experiencing anxiety attacks...is this a possibility?

Either way, you sound like a fab father and i hope that some of the tension of the festive season eases for you. Best wishes to you John.

It is possibly a reaction to fat which you may not eat normally in the same quantities. A few years ago I reacted violently to cheese, cream and also fries. Would make me fly to the loo - more often when I was out.

It turned out that I had a problem with my gall bladder and could not digest the fat - it caused excrutiating pain and latterly almost instantaneous diarrhoea. While waiting for an operation, I had to avoid fatty foods completely. One day I just ate two fries and doubled up in pain.

Hardly fair to jump on someone for not checking your background story is it? I for one do not go around checking everyones previous posts before I reply, how odd that you'd think someone should.

Anyway I was also going to suggest gall bladder.

  • Sounds like stress induced IBS to be honest.

Sounds very much like IBS to me too.

My OH suffers badly from it and it is excasberated by stress.

He can eat the same thing on different days and on one day he is fine, on others dreadfull, especially if he has had a stressful time, or is worrying about something.

Perhaps you should try something like colefac which is bought over the counter from your chemist, prior to your next visiting rights. It may calm your stomach down enough to be ok with the visit. It contains peppermint oil in it.

IBS is horrendous and is washed over by those who don't suffer from it. Try and keep calm and enjoy your time with your kids. I know it is hard, but try and blank your seemingly over bearing wife out during this time.

You can always get a cup of hot water and try a herbal tea whilst there. There is nothing wrong with not eating with your kids. But I don't feel as if something is wrong with the food.

Mind you , if I eat flat leaf lettuce ( you know the original type, not iceberg or little gem) I am off to the loo within minutes. Don't know what it is with it, but always happens.

Good luck and see if an IBS medication works.

I too was gonna suggest getting his gallbladder checked.

I thought I had a stomach bug the other week. Done the usual 24 hours starvation, clear fluids. The next day, everytime I ate the upper abdominal pains started. Thought I was feeling better next day when popped into mcds when out shopping. Had barely started eating when the pains hit and was back to square 1 again. Doc has said I probably have some gallstones and gave medication for it. Now whenever I eat fatty foods, the pain hits within a few minutes.

Hope you work out what's causing it OP. Don't let others put you off trying to find the cause. We've all (or most of us) given into our kids and had mcds or kfc (don't get me started on that one lol) and the main thing is that the kids had a nice time with their daddy :T

Sorry, have to disagree. The OP started a thread regarding being ill from eating McDonalds so the comment about taking his kids to McDonalds has nothing to do with anything.
It's all too common on here when you get !!!!!! picking bits out of a question to bitch about rather than helping with the issue. (I mean the person who made the original comment about taking his kids to McDonalds... not you two)

The OP pointed out that he asked the kids what they wanted to do and they said McDonalds, so it was outlining why he was there. He wasn't asking for parenting advice or where to take his kids, just asking for advice / opinions on why he's ill when he eats there... regardless of if he's with his kids or not.

If I am really stressed and try to eat something hot I do occasionally feel really bad straight after the first bite and it doesn't sound dissimilar to your symptoms. It rarely happens but when it does I end up not eating the rest and spending the next hour or so in the rest room.

I can't see its an allergy or intolerance as it goes away too quickly. It can't be food poisoning as it starts too quickly.

I'm thinking IBS due to stress?

But saying that I often get tummy ache an hour after a Mcdonalds I don't eat their often but I think it is due to a slight intolerance to something in the food.

A few people have said that, but you all might have missed post 9
Hi, it doesn't matter when/where I eat McDonald's, I always have diarrhoea even just a few hours later or horrible stomach pains/cramps that won't go away. I know that my problems couldn't have been from anything else I've ate because I eat very healthily and that's the only take-out food I've had in a very long time, only had it to please my kids. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who has this problems as others I've spoken to say they have problems with McDonald's too. I was interested to hear about the intolerance. The funny thing is, I felt like death at the time but after "dealing with my toiletry needs", I felt absolutely fine and the sore stomach/pains etc disappeared just like that.

    John.

So it's not just that visit to McDonalds, unless visiting McDonalds in general is stressful
