I think a lot of branches had pledged to take goods to their local 'Open Christmas' scheme where on Christmas Day, a turkey lunch with trimmings is provided , free of charge, for the homeless or for anyone on their own.

I hope this was true, I would much rather see this happen than the usual pack of animals scouring the supermarkets fighting with others to get what the consider a bargain, some people are so greedy and have no morals at all!

I see this thread has its usual fair share of "how many would you like?" " OHHHH fill the basket I will take it all!"

Nothing better than greedy scrounging animals!

We went out this morning...last year got a bargain turkey when Tesco opened.

Worth doing (Though not as good as last year) as picked up a Turkey for £13 (down from £30) and a whole salmon a third off.
Sainsbury's was a different story...shelves and shelves of turkeys that could be yours for only £50 upwards.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Popped into ASDA tonight on the way home from the sales and got loads of veg for only 95p.
Loads of stuff on offer, but had enough anyway and just topped up a few things like mushrooms, peppers etc.

dont tare all bargin hunters with the same brush....

There are lots of us who are trying to stay within budget for what ever reason....

I bet you wouldnt walk passed a mega bargin... If you knew you would eat/use it....especially if pennies are tight..

I have started looking for reduced food bargins lately... as I am finding it harder and harder to save money with the ever increasing prices.. the way things are going.. I need will need these reduced items, just to keep in budget..

by the way did you know if you are diganosed as being a homeless alcaholic sp? you would be intitled to £30 a week payment.

I know this as i know people who work with people on the streets...some people's family weekly food budget is less than that some weeks

  • Well, went out and round a few shops and got some bargains, Turkeys for £5-8..... Down from £40. Got some salmon and beef nice and cheap as well (50p a pack), and ham down from £2 to 32p, and mince for 50p a pack. We spent probably £60 or more, but I rather think we've saved a fair bit....

Too right! There was just me and my hubby for Christmas dinner yesterday as my daughter went for dinner at her boyfriend's and his parents so we has a Tesco value chicken BUT...

this morning I managed to get one of the extra large butter basted turkeys reduced to £18 from £36. Not the cheapest I've ever had but the price per kilo now works out cheaper than the value chicken. It is in the oven nearly done and tomorrow we are having Christmas dinner round 2 with my daughter and her boyfriend. And then it'll be turkey salad, turkey & chips, turkey sandwiches, turkey curry and 2 batches of turkey stew sometime soon.

For those of us on pay a freeze and a low budget these bargains help ease the way!

I've had to use most of next week's budget shopping today (the week starts on a Wednesday for me), but it was well worth it! The most I spent was £1 for fresh free range eggs, and another £1 for salmon fillets I really wanted to treat myself to. All the rest was mostly 10p, 20p or 30p, and I got a whole chicken for 50p! No turkey this year, but plenty of chicken. Now I wish I could just stay at home for next week or two! And does anyone have any tips about using the windowsill as additional fridge space?

Good bargain hunting. I wouldn't use a windowsill though as the glass with magnify any sun/heat.
