Just found this thread, I went into Tesco on Christmas eve at about 5pm and the whole salmon that were already half price from £10 per kg to £5 per kg , they had then reduced them by half again to £2.50 kg and then when I was there they were reduced to £1 per kg!
I got 4 for about £8 in total, only problem was spending the evening filleting, pin boning, portioning and skinning them!
On the plus side I have 70 large portions of salmon fillet in the freezer.0 -
Well I went to tesco on Xmas eve, everyone was waiting for final reductions but the staff had stated that there will be no final reductions. If there are any items left they will be chucked away, not even given to homeless.0

well complain to tesco as I bet the policys are set by HO and not by the store, in any case its they're money and not yours so why does it bother you,
I do not care whose money it is. The fact that perfectly good food gets thrown in the skip should bother us all.
We had a good Christmas dinner mainly due to the kindness of family & the cut-price bargains to be had in local stores.
I used to be able to get out of date veg to feed to my goats from my local shop & then one day they told me they could no longer give me it because HQ had said that it had to go into the skip. So that was it. A shocking waste in my opinion.0 -
And does anyone have any tips about using the windowsill as additional fridge space?
We normally have a plastic storage box (one that mice or spiders or snails can't get into!) outside the back door to put the veg in. Last year we even put the reduced meat in it too (remember all the snow and ice?? lol) Good for bottled water, lemonade & cola etc. too!
Fruit & veg don't need to be kept at fridge temperature (4 degrees) so put that outside on the doorstep or in the shed/garage or even in the car boot. Use your fridge for meat & dairy products.
Although, I can't believe the temperature outside... we don't even have the heating on today!DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

I think a lot of branches had pledged to take goods to their local 'Open Christmas' scheme where on Christmas Day, a turkey lunch with trimmings is provided , free of charge, for the homeless or for anyone on their own.
When I worked in M&S, (only a few years ago) I commented on the amount of food that was thrown away and why it couldn't go to charity/homeless. I was informed it was not their policy because they would not have any control of subsequent storage and would not risk liability if there was food poisoning. How this differs from any usual customer was not explained. They went on to tell me that the food that was chucked was covered in blue dye so it could not be retrieved by customers although they had had problems in this more so with staff helping themselves. In light of this I very much doubt M&S participated in any homeless Xmas dinner scheme although I would be delighted to hear differently.:D0 -

ASDA had some silly bargains today in my local'ish store.
People were taking away trolley loads of stuff.
I got 6 packs of saugages at 15p per pack and a couple of packs of finest burgers at 25p per pack. Also a loaf of bread for the birds at 5p per loaf, they had dozens and dozens of loafs to get rid of. Missed the bacon at 25p per pack!!
£1.45 spent (including the birds bargain!!).

Went to Morrisons this morning and got lucky, noticed in one of the freezers they had lots of stuff for either 5p or 9p each. Bought over £13 worth of food and only paid 62p. :j0
