I have a interview soon, I don't know if its about the Work Programme (As I have been on JSA for a year) or the New Enterprise Scheme ( I asked a advisor and they did not know anything and set up this interview I have coming up or the adviser did so that I would not be eligible for the NEA by the time I had this interview, I mean surely they could let me see a advisor about it before 6 weeks?)
but what exactly happens on the start of the work programme? are you sent some where straight away for £1.25 a hour?"

    thanks
if you are over 25 it could be the work programme. you are unlikely to get sent on a work placement straight away. you may not even get sent on one at all. it is mostly just attending appointments with an adviser and doing jobsearch sessions etc.

Deal? It's not a deal at all. I had to put in a complaint as I had an assesment in Aug 2011 and never saw or heard from anyone in 5 months as they lost me on their system and blamed all the staff who they sacked (50% of them) and the internal systems they had in place. This then resulted in a letter from the Ops director and a personal phone call from him.

I am not one to back down and I know how to play them very well as I am more organsied and more professional than anyone who works for them.

He told me they DO NOT send people on work placements and I will never had to do one. They do not want in to work in the employers favour so that was it.

I have emailed on the ppdg (Pertemps) website to enquire. If they say none of their courses are mandatory I won't be going. All I was told when I asked what it was about was that it involves getting to know everyone at the office and what Pertemps offer on the WP. I got all that info at induction and it doesn't take 6 full days to learn that.

I am sure the guy in front of me signing out who was at the induction with me didnt have to do this course as I heard him talk to a mate he didn't have to go in tilll next Wednesday. Maybe they will send me on anything as I didn't sign their consent forms, I hope not.

Even their web site says attendance is min every 14 days and nothing about mandatory course after induction.

Will wait and see if someone gets back to me.

Hi, just sounds like another pathetic attempt just like the goverment to be seen to be doing something. They have so many of these lets go nowhere courses, write a cv,interview tecniques etc etc, but miss the real problem.NOT ENOUGH JOBS TO GO AROUND:D. Can you believe these providers were vetted for the contracts they won and convinced the goverment they were experts in their field, they are not a scrap better than the job centre and i would go as far to say the jc are better.

Had a phone call from PPDG apparantly it is mandatory but does not consist of what I was told ie about what they offer and to get to know the staff. It is confidence building, barriers to work, interview techniques etc all I did at my 1st provider.

Also only after an induction how can they assume you need any help with these, I did bring in my CV examples of cover letters I send, what I write in personal statements in app forms also my job seeking record. None of this was looked at so I am fuming I have been duped to attending this 6 day course.

The only barrier I have is the Work Programme itself I had a job to start before the advisor from first Provider started hassling them with forms and phone calls especially when I didn't give my consent.

I really don't think the JC or WP people realise that hassling employers on 'your behalf' isn't anything other than the kiss of death.
I do not even admit to potential employers that I am signing on as the very act of doing so has been so vilified.Being out of work for 6 months should not be seen as shameful, but I feel shamed by all those who say they are there to support me.

I was advised to sign off JSA and go on to ESA this week, how bizarre is that? "But I am looking for work" I said! "I am not ill!" (My partner is unwell and was advised to apply, so they wanted to put me on his claim). Took 2 days to undo all that 'advice'. 2 days where I had interviews and interview prep to do, so they are actively damaging my chances of success, after I worked so hard to get the interview in the first place.

Hi to be honest I think it all depends on who you are sent to. I am with Serco was with my 1st provider 16 weeks all I had to do was fortnightly meetings with an advisor go through my job search etc.

Now thou on the 2nd stage they seem to have their own rules and send people on mandatory courses although at induction I was told minimum contact is a meeting with advisor every 14 days. I was also told they no longer send people out on work placements however if someone is say 21 and never had a job it could be something that could be looked into in the future.

To be honest with all the bad press the work experience initiative got I think if it does become part of work programme it will be voluntary.
