Personally i think the work program is a waste of time. Pointless hours spend applying for jobs doing 'job search' when it takes half an hour and the time could be spent on something more beneficial. The program didn't help me find employment or gain more confidence in interviews (which i stated was one of my weaknesses). As well as that being moved around every 16-20 weeks didn't help either. The twice I've found employment its been though jobs I've found myself and not receiving any help from the providers, apart from the annoying phone calls after i'd found employment (commission?).

They are meant to keep on touch
It would be commission if they didn't know who employed you, withholding this info means they get zero payment for you being employed, they are like leeches I think
They also get paid for each person in their useless jobsearch sessions

    China has a welfare system.

With 85% of UK households in receipt of benefits then stopping them all would result in a revolution rather than a rise in crime.

Returning to China, Britain has more CCTV cameras than it has in spite of China's population being 21 times greater so the infrastructure is in situ to help contain serious social unrest.

Not all benefits are the same. I know why people who are on out of work benefits in particular like to think they are all the same.

Cut welfare and you can cut tax to the point most wouldn't need benefits. It's an accounting trick of taxiing with the left hand and dishing out verb benefits with the right hand.

the new scheme you may be talking about will start in April 2014 where people either have to work 30 hours a week to get JSA or attend the JC 30 hours a week to look for work.

And of course by doing this the interviews will flood in!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
4 years of perpetual moaning, surely there is something more productive you could do with your life? Go to the library and read books, learn some new skills. You are on a negative spiral expecting someone else to do all the leg work to break it.

    4 years? Pardon?

Expect everyone else to do what for me? I do all my own leg work - sourcing jobs, applying, chasing for feedback, spec letters, finding new businesses opening up etc. No one does this for me and no one has offered any help.

You are clueless and you have no idea what you are even on about and I will not reply to you again so knock yourself and keep it up.

Aren't you just an intern somewhere? Oh dear.....when they no longer want you oh how will laugh!

I ended up on the Work Programme in April but never actually went as I got a job about 3 days after I got put on the Work Programme. The job came to an end in late September (It was agency so it was just a natural conclusion, no sackings or leaving etc) so I'm back on the work programme as I haven't been employed for the 2 years I think it is to be taken off Work Programme.

I went to see A4e on Monday and they were raving about all the links they had with employers and how they'd be able to find me all sorts of things to apply for. I've just been sent an e-mail with jobs it says I HAVE to apply for and they're basically just a whole list of apprenticeships (including laughable ones like warehousing and call centre operators) one self employed driving job (I don't even drive) for a delivery firm and one packing job in a warehouse that has to be the best part of 25 miles from my house.

No wonder people think they're a joke. I don't expect them to find a job for me as I do plenty of my own jobseeking but I expected much better than that after sitting listening to them praising themselves for 2 hours.

I've nothing against apprenticeships as such but I don't think I'm eligible even if I wanted to work for the derisory wage as I'm a university graduate and I think the apprenticeships should be in something proper. I've worked in a warehouse before and I really fail to see how you could do an apprenticeship in it, even in the most complex ones you could learn everything in a week. It just seems like a loophole for warehouses to get cheap labour.

UPDATE: I am now at A4e (action for employment) once a week for two hours

this is a drag but at least bearable

the actual place is totally disinterested - I spent a lot of the 2 hours playing games on my phone no questions asked

    this is for 6 weeks

I signed on today and was in there 3 minutes because I am at A4e

it's just like the old days!

anyone else found that things have calmed down? I think they have finally realised they don't have the resources to follow the initial plan of harassing every post Work Programme claimant all day every day

After the WP? Calmed down? Never started for me and I am doing 'nothing' other than look for work.
